Regarding Judging Play Expectations / Game Length

Hi!

I'm wondering how long should we expect a judge to playthrough the game before giving their rating/judgement?

Since in the Game Jams I usually join, they are usually expected to only play an Entry for 5 - 15mins maximum, and so games would need to be tailored to that timeframe.

Since in this Jam, there's time to develop a proper short game experience AND that it is expected to be a complete experience; Is there an Expected Game Length? And Will the Judges play the games from start to finish if that is the case?

Looking forward to this clarification!

Just giving this a bump in hopes it gets answered! ^^

Might be worth to ask on the Discord server's "questions" channel!

Hey! So sorry for the delay.

There are no strict guidelines on length of game created, however...

We can't guarantee all judges will play the full game if its a longer game, we will be asking our judges to play a minimum of 15 minutes if possible of each game. We would recommend noting the expected game length on the itch page so we can know expectations.

Hope this helps!

Hi! Thanks for the reply! It is indeed very helpful ^^ As I would like to try a more Narrative approach this time and wanted to have expectations on a minimum play time to ensure message gets across in a timely but adequate manner :D

Hi there! I haven't missed this - just waiting to get clarification from our team before answering <3

Can I add to this question a couple of related ones?
Are multiplayer games okay? Couch multiplayer? Online multiplayer?
"any games engine you wish as long as it is accessible to the judges" -> I'm guessing that means web version and/or export on major computer systems?
If the game cannot be finished in the expected game length, or is designed for consecutive playthroughs (e.g. branching narrative), can we provide a short text or video for the jury to look at after playing the game that sums up what they might not have seen?
Thanks!

Multiplayer games are ok but there must be either a single player mode, or online multiplayer to enable our judges to effectively play.

Major exports/web versions are fine

The game should be complete - but can absolutely be expanded after the event. There is always space for an act 2. Any additional information can be included on the itch page :)
