Are typefaces used in photoshop okay for use in game?

We have been making assets in photoshop, which includes some typefaces within the adobe library. Are we allowed to use the typefaces within the actual game itself? Like for our dialogue. We don't want to overstep on the paid asset rule since typefaces are a little tricky!

I'd also like to know more about this! I was going to sneak fonts from Adobe into my game but I think technically they're not allowed to be embedded in other programs according to Adobe's own terms and conditions? So even though they're free with Adobe, I don't know if they're okay seeing as it's not completely Open Source.

My next question would be about fonts that are free for Personal Use...I imagine they're fine? But I dunno, like you said, typefaces are a little tricky.

Hey Grace, thank you for your question!

Personal Use licenses have more restrictions than just 'non-commercial use only'. Personal use licenses are not allowed for any software development, such as website software development, mobile app development, desktop application development, or video game development. It is against the license of the font for you to use it in a video game, regardless of what you do with the game afterwards (sell it, enter into a game jam etc). We recommend avoiding personal use licenses for any assets to create your game.

As for Adobe fonts, their license covers full commercial and non-commercial usage, so you are fine to use those. For our competition, we will not disqualify anyone using an Adobe font*, as we do not believe that will give anyone a competitive advantage, nor does it copy an asset create by someone else without their permission.

*if the Adobe font provably used generative AI for its creation by Adobe, as this may be possible, then we would review the submission before accepting it into the competition.

I use Adobe fonts so this sounds like we are allowed to use their fonts for our game. We don't use any AI in our game (I personally really really despise AI). Thank you so much for your response!
