Jam etiquette?

Sorry if this isn't the correct place for this; I've never participated in a game jam before but this one sounds very cool. You're supposed to do all the work of building the thing during the time the jam is open, correct? Does that extend to inspiration, planning, sketching? Is it like NaNoWriMo where you're not allowed to write the first word until November 1st at 00:00:01 but you can do all of the outlining and stuff beforehand? Or should all planning also wait until the jam opens?

Yeah, the general idea is that you create something within the jam's timeframe, but I'm easygoing about this—you can get started on it now (I know a few people already have haha). I'm not going to penalize anyone for having ideas for this jam that excite them.
