I don't know if I played your game or dropped acid, but I had fun either way. Incredibly unique and entertaining — I like how the game breaks the 4th wall immediately and sets itself up to be full of jokes and goofy antics. Some feedback that I have:

  • The exploration was cut off early due to what I assume was a bug. Once I entered the ice cream shop, I wasn't able to return to the rest of the casino which was a shame because to check out more and wanted to try to get the elevator to work.
  • It felt much closer to an Earthbound-inspired RPG than a metroidvania. While that did help the game to stand out to me, it also made me wish there was a level-up system or items that led to unlocking new regions to better fit the jam's general theme.

That said, it was still a fun game. I'm excited too because it looks like you're still working on it. I'll check back in the future to try out new updates!

Holy cow this took a while to extract for some reason. Anywho onto the game:

First level is interesting, the music slows down a lot and kinda makes things uneasy? Kind of a rough loop like I felt I was drifting off to sleep and suddenly jumping awake in high school. Click to move was a cool thought, hadn't seen that yet in the games I've rated. It's nice for those who prefer different movement options!

I see the Undertale vibes in the next area with the fountain. I haven't played Yume Nikki or OFF, but I love Lisa the Painful and UT so it's a plus taking homage from them. So much quirk! I love the attitude this game has.

Finally got to a battle, the music is CRAZY here. And I lost! Time to start over. I was able to get pretty far, but had to stop because of IRL stuff, but there is a crazy amount of stuff in this game. I really hope you finish it!

The music overall is super cute! I love the electronic vibes. The art is alright, I can appreciate hand drawn stuff like this. It's all so still! I assume time was the killer here, cuz this has a lot of potential. This type of RPG isn't really my vibe, but I can tell this has a ton of heart into it. Maybe a map would be good? Or I didn't get to it potentially, that could be on me. Great job here, I hope you get to ours!

I'll definitely be overhauling art and whatnot in a few days once I resume work on the project! Yeah the art woulda looked a lot cleaner had I had more time. I chose functionality over actual good looks for the most part. Terrence's sprite sheet was made in I kid you not like 5 minutes lol. Thank you for playing! I hope to bring out the full potential of this project!

What a fun quirky, rpg! It's too bad that it's quite buggy and unfinished, because there is a lot of potential here. I was having a good time but I had to give up because I kept getting stuck in fights where the enemies attack over and over without giving me a chance to respond until my hp was completely drained. Also, keeping up HP was a challenge because some of the items that were supposed to give hp didn't seem to actually restore hp. At any rate, this seems really cool and I look forward to seeing more in the future.

Thank you for the feedback! Yeah it's pretty brutal and in future updates I plan on thoroughly re-hauling the battle system to be way less punishing. Enemies had to be slapped together near the end to make each area distinct. Some were made in 5 minutes and tested in even less lol, an hour before the submission was due haha. I hope to bring out this game's full potential someday!
