For a first game it's pretty alright! It just didn't really grab my attention immediately. (I have a very short attention span so it can be difficult for me to stick with a game.) It's got a lot of fun potential though! I'd say overall it's quite sluggish for the most part, and since the sprites are so big, it can be a bit hard to see what's coming. All in all, keep up the good work!

Good:

  • Intriguing aesthetic. Definitely feels dreamlike, and some of the sprites are really charming.
  • Lots of story, between the opening cutscene and all the talking with Augus. Wasn't expecting that.
  • I'm intrigued to find out more about the world. What are the trials? What's up with the ear prejudice?

Bad:

  • I got soft-locked. At the bit with the white square with blue squares stuck to it (what is that?) I went past it to get the herb, and accidentally knocked it under the opposite branch. Since I couldn't get it back out, there was no way to proceed.
  • Related to the above, the opening cutscene is unskippable. Since there are no save games (as far as I saw), it would be nice to have the option to skip that on replays.
  • Combat wasn't very satisfying. The hit animation on the Fleurechomps is great, but they have very high HP, and there's no sound, particles, or screenshake to make hitting them really satisfying.

Overall, this is a bizarre game with an intriguing story. I'll probably come back to it when I have more time.

Btw, not sure if this is intentional, but it really made me laugh when Augus asked me if I knew how to jump, when my character had been jumping to advance the dialogue every single time.

one of the best looking and well presented games on here, the sprite work and rest of the graphic are great!

Looking good intro/cutscene here is my feedback :

+ Platformer parts are good mushroom are not too fast or too slow.

+ story is interesting

- Find a bug that NPC (August) stands floating off ground in the cutscene.

- I finish the demo then back to the menu and I can't quite a game.

- Can't press "S" to go down the ladder, arrow keys are fine.

? (suggestion) In the room background and floor need more contrast, like making the floor the same color as the ladder.

Thank you for playing and giving feedback! I'll look into fixing some of the bugs in a new build once the voting period ends :D

Good job, i have seen some bug like fall in infinity, but the gameplay and dialogue are very cool

Developer

Thank you! Which area was there infinite falling? I'll squash a few bugs after the voting ends so the game at least has a more stable build.

The game wont start for me. This is all I see.

Developer

Oh no! That's a really weird bug. What OS/specs do you have?

Submitted

Oh! I should have told you that from the beginning! I’m using linux and running the game under wine. I will say that other Unity games from the jam have worked perfectly that way. So, I still think it’s unusual. Could you make a linux build or maybe a web build?

Developer

Yeah! I'm not able to upload anything during the voting period, but once the voting ends, I'll release a linux, mac, and web version. If you could let me know how the linux version runs when it's available, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Will do!
