Use of the limitation
By making health the resource you use for your spells. To regain health you must drain the life source of the enemy. This creates a unique dynamic where players must use their abilities wisely.

None, and that upsets me.

You made a 4.4GB game for a weekend Game Jam OMG haha

Well I know Unreal Engine games are big on file size so this was to be expected. The game is very interesting and visually it turned out really cool, I definitely think it's something you should continue to work on.

The project ends up being very overscoped, so I imagine that in a period of 3 days just what you already do on it must have been a lot of work, but if you decide to continue working on it after the end of Game Jam, with more work and polishing I believe it will become something really cool!

I really appreciate what you are trying to do and I wish you the best of luck in your career! Good job!

Thank you so much! Really appreciate the words on encouragement! I put a lot of work in this game and your comment makes me want to continue working on it <3 Thank you for seeing its potential and hopefully I'll be releasing an update for it very soon! Once again thank you so much! <3 Best of luck to you and your team!

HOLY CRAP

I can't believe you made this in a game jam. the quality here is INSANE and it's probably the best looking game in the jam. Having the tentacles clip into the screen from behind you is a BONE CHILLING experience. There's sooooooo much going on here mechanically, and all the particle effects you've included look fantastic and play well together strategically.

Also did you make any of the models or textures? They're phenomenal.

I seriously don't know how you made this in such a short amount of time, man, this could be the start of an fully awesome commercial game.

Thank you so much! I'm very glad you enjoyed the game! I did not make the models or the textures, they are available in the epic games store for free! All i had to do was find a bunch of em and find creative ways to include em together. For example the spell cast was actually just a punching animations that i added particles over to make it seem like  he's casting combat spells! Had to find very creative ways to use the assets I can get my hands on to be able to make em do what I want them to do! The island itself is actually my work but unreal engine has a plugin that allows you to make it relatively easy!

The Chilling experience is exactly what I was hoping players would experience playing this game so Im so glad thats what you experienced!

I was so happy and proud of myself for being able to complete this game in this short period of time! I've been programming for 6 years now and I treated this game jam as a way to showcase my skills and abilities as I am also currently job hunting and added this game on my portfolio for recruiters to see. I would literally wake up, work on the game and then go to sleep!

However, please remember that this is not difficult to do! If you're interested in 3D development I urge you to look up YouTube videos on unreal engine 4 or 5 and its blueprint system! Its an amazing game engine and the possibilities on it are endless! If using the blueprint system, very minimal programming knowledge is needed!

Once again thank you so much for your comment it made my day <3

The game has some potential but its way too large of a filesize for a gamejam game and is frankly overscoped and not complete

Developer

Thank you for your feedback! About the filesize.... well yeah its a 3D game developed in Unreal Engine 5 so that's to be expected, Overscoped, very true I had to make a lot of changes in the 3 days however unfinished I disagree with, the game is at a playable state where someone can start and end it, there's just one mission. Regardless, Thank you for your feedback!

You're right that it is complete in the goal, but the mechanic like life steal isn't working correctly and just makes the game into just running from key to key and avoiding enemies all together, without knowing how to actually use it

which is a shame since I liked using the spells but weren't worth using without life steal or some way to regain hp

This was fun! Nice and tense, with plenty of challenge luring enemies out of position so I could grab keys before the kraken managed to chase me down!

There's a few issues which would be good to fix if you're looking to continue this after the jam:

  • Draining enemies didn't seem to be working for me
  • I found that the Kraken reaches the player very quickly and is mostly able to keep up with player movement - this works really well, but led to me having to constantly being on the run rather than taking time to engage with the regular combat mechanics.
  • If possible, a brightness slider would be great, as the default brightness made it difficult for me to play during the day.

I am so glad you enjoyed the game! And thank you so much for the feedback! I'm sorry draining enemies did not work for you but I think its because of a bug, to work around the bug the player needs to take a step back and then go back to the enemy to drain! I will definitely adjust the krakens movement and add a brightness slider in future iterations of the game! Cant express my gratitude enough!

No worries at all - saw you wanted to continue after the jam so wanted to give detailed feedback, hopefully it's helpful :)
