Why are the platforms disappearing before I even step on them? Is this a  bug or a feature?

The controls are just impossible! I am not good with platforms and I am especial bad with hard platforms!

Developer

It's a feature. On touch they start disappearing, same for yellow platforms

The beginning is hard for some reason people couldnt make the jump and I am sorry about that.

Tho platformers might be hard but difficulty is not a reason to down a fellow gamedev's game to neon

If you dont enjoy the game dont rate it because either ways your feelings will alter your judgment or you are not qualified (you don't know much about something to have a solid opinion on it)

Thanks for playing my game and for the feedback

I don't agree. Normies can and should judge. You will encounter more of them in the wild and they are the majority of customers. Their opinion matters.

I didn't see you advertise your game as "getting over it", so saying the controls are too hard for me is a legit opinion. Beside that would a person that unreasonably loves hardcore platformers have an "unaltered" judgment? To me that sounds like saying "if you don't rate it 10/10 don't bother casting a vote" and that is definitely not in the spirit of any jam.

I give every game a fair chance. Even if it is not my preferred genre or completely unplayable. I spend 5 minutes trying it at the very least. If I have problems I first have a look at the comments and conclude from there whether I'm just dumb or there's a legit issue. I might not be an expert on hardcore platformers, but I know what makes a good game. I know what my biggest issue is and I can articulate it. Whether you take it or leave it doesn't matter for me in the slightes. I dropped the information now it is your job to evaluate it.

I am not out to get you or put your work down, even tough I tend too write in a strict and unfriendly tone. That's just my writing style. No need to crumble like a shack of cards.

Developer

I'm sorry but you said and i quote "I'm not very good at platformers" So basically you'll rate badly no matter what the outcome is including gameplay (which you didn't know how to play), fun (which you didn't have because you didn't know how to play), and also not even reading the tutorial
Every single information is included
Also Beta testing or game making requires at least 10 mins of hard core tryhard to say it's impossible 5 Mins is really low

Firs of all if you quote me please quote "I am not good with platforms". Not being good at something doesn't mean that I don't like it. Soooo... to be extra super duper fair in my assessment and minimize my sucyness with platformers I garbed an expert. The type of person who would play the star levels in Mario (always 100%)  or Donkey Kong Country Returns (186%) just to get the full experience. He played your game for 45 minutes. That a fair Rater?

Here is how far he made it:

To be extra unbiased we also used the rating guide suggested by the jam host in the overview tab. I also added one star to his evaluation, since he tends to be cruel when rating.

Issues that were encountered:

  • Firs thing the expert noticed was that the green platforms starter disappearing even before you stepped on them. That's also the reason I asked you if that's intended behavior, since we both expected that they would disappear after you step on them and not when the sprites overlap.
  • The expert noted that the controls are delayed
  • After dying the music starts from the very beginning. That was annoying
  • You could sit on a bounce pad without bouncing. That's probably a bug.
  • The bounce height on the bounce pad was very inconsistent. In the picture above the bounce was sometimes high enough to trigger the yellow platform above to disappear, but usually nowhere near high enough.

Rating:

Engagement:
2 Stars - had to wait for platforms to re spawn or move in position before trying again (got bored), a lot of finagling the character to put him into the next jump position, I guess that someone might like the difficulty so I'll add a star

Creative use of Assets:
3 Stars - Nothing bad nothing special, no aspect for 4 star category

Polish:
2 Stars - wouldn't pay money for it, so no 5 stars, bugged jump pads + obfuscated controls + difficulty spikes resulting in bottlenecks + meh music - ok sound effects - death animation was neat

It's a rage game and I think you were going for that. Well done ... xD

It is a rage game but you don't stop playing because you know it's possible

That feeling is something i have never achieved before but miraculously did here

Really fun and frustrating (in a good way).

Only got to play about 5~ minutes because i should be working right now lol, but this certainly is a game i'll come back and play!

Thanks mate

A creative use of the falling platform, though they start cracking up when you are touching them, they should only crack once you are actually on them! Your game was the first one to include background music out of 13 games i have played! The game was a bit challenging, it took me a few minutes to overcome the first level! Perhaps some sfx for jumping would have been nice, and some other features like coyote time? The tutorial, in my opinion, was a great addition but I think that you gave it all at once. Perhaps introducing mechanics individually, in-game, would have been much better for this game. Overall, I found your game very engaging and the creativity was a 4-star. Well done!

Thanks for the reply
All in all, I joined the jam really late and only spent ~9hours on making it and didn't really have time or resources because i'm a solo gamedev
I think the biggest challenge was to think of the map and ideas I could use to spice up the game (took me 2 hours to think), but I enjoyed making the game and messing with it
Also inspired by Getting over it (Like you could see in the title of my game) fun but frustrating as you know it's possible but still mess it up and go back to the beginning of the level
Thanks for playing my game

I'll play yours in a little while
