whaaaa only 4 hours?! That's some ninja dev skills right there! :D Great music and good ol fashioned musical fun! -nice job! :D
Simple but nice game! I found that it was hard to control the square though. I included it in my Music Game Jam compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :)
The music was A E S T H E T I C... because I love the internet-made, vaporwave music genre lol. The controls was really unresponsive to me (A and S only worked well for me) and the cubes to stand on for a score is too random. So it takes some luck to have a high score as possible.
Lovely choice of music! As others have commented, having the next move be telegraphed would be most welcome, as would a gradual ramp of speed. It would feel much more satisfying to be able to let your square rest for a few beats and drink up points once in awhile rather than having to constantly be flitting about, at least at the start. Sequential wave-like keypresses to move around is an interesting idea but I found it a little tough to play, I would really like it if the key-wave was relative to your current position rather than constantly having to start from 'A' and go left to right. Nice job, though! :)
EDIT: Just read your pinky trick on the game page. That helps a lot!
I get the idea and find a fun one especially like a sneaky way to teach keyboard layouts. ;) I agree with some of the previous comments that maybe outlining for 2-3 frames where the next square will appear would make it more enjoyable and making the squares appear more in synced with the music would have nailed it for me and me dance with my fingers to the beat of the music. ;) :D However, seeing this was a 4hr project I say "nicely done"
FItting music and visuals! The controls were a bit confusing at first, but once you figure it out it's quite fun. Maybe some telegraphing (e.g. hinting where the square will be next) would help?
I like the music. I feel like the game is a little out of my skillset to play though. By the time I'd mentally recognize where the square had moved to, and then mentally sorted out how many keys I had to press, the square had moved multiple times. Might be nice to have it start slow and ramp up?
Not bad for 4 hours! It would be nice to see something on screen from player input, small visuals under main squares perhaps on key press. Music is implemented very well, took me a bit but I got to groovin'. The visuals leave a bit to be desired, but it functions well and its pretty fun. Nice work!
Also bad title ideas: Cube groover, Square jammer, asdf masher
