I included it in an article of my favorite games from the Music Game Jam!

Developer

Awesome -thanks! :D

Loved this entry! Great work! Trying to leave the tab long enough to write this. Both fun to get beyond the initial set up before you run out of HP as well as customize the performance with the variety of different lvl1-4 forms. As with other commenters, I look forward to added variety in future releases post jam.

Wave progress indication would be nice, as well as the ability to buy amps without interrupting the game view though I suppose those moments of panic did add to the fun :) I like repetitive music loops, so I have to admit that part didn't bother me. I love the synth mechanic!

Developer

Thank you so much!  And excellent suggestions too -I will definitely have to add a wave progression indicator although I'm not sure what would be the best approach for the amp menu w/o obscuring anything -maybe it'd be better if the amp menu covered up the sequencer at the bottom or just a smaller simple menu instead?  Then again maybe the amp panic moments are worth it lmao ohhhh decisions decisions -if you have any preference on that I'd be interested to hear it!  Anyway, thanks again! :D

An original use of a sequencer! The mechanics are fun, giving some interesting strategies to explore. Maybe it could have had some background music? Anyway, I enjoyed it!

Developer

Thank you! :D ...and background music!?  baaaackground music!?!?!  you. are. the. background. music!  :D   (aaaaactually I had considered something like that, like a gentle metronome-ish bkg loop but if too many sounds are going on simultaneously sometimes the audio would get buggy esp in html5 for reasons beyond my knowledge.)  rock on!!!!

Nice graphics, unique game! I included it in my Music Game Jam compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :)

Developer

Thank you! :D

Like others have said, the game is really easy. But it's still a lot of fun. Really enjoyed making my band play something, as opposed to just spamming notes.

Developer

Thank you!  I had a lot of fun playing with the note sequencer too - I probably would have done a better job balancing the game if I hadn't been distracted making fun tunes lol.  Anyway, today I released a small update and addressed some of the balance issues which makes the game a lot more challenging.  Thanks again for the feedback and for playing! :D

Nice idea. I was pretty confused at first till I bought some amps. The audio is really draining to hear on repeat though. The visuals and setup look good and are appropriate for the game. The game works well but doesn't seem too challenging once you got everybody ripping it up. Suggested areas of improvement are more varying audio/music and adjusting difficulty in some way.

Developer

Thank you!  Sorry the audio doesn't have a ton of variety -was running short on time for stuff like that.  I actually had some assets I had made that I didn't get to use where you could switch instruments in an area that lets you customize a band so you could use different sound styles but couldn't get that feature in time for the jam.  I did however put out a small update today that fixes some of the balance issues so it's a lot more challenging now.  Anyway, thank you for the feedback and thanks for playing! :D

It's a very good concept, the game is fun and enjoyable and its a cool twist on the power defence. I think it's a good base to expand on. Obviously as others have said, the waves are too long and it's too simple to actually plan anything but  It was actually fun the hear the created beat.  In all, its a very good entry!

Developer

Thank you! :D  & completely agree just didn't have time to complete the stamina system and make adjustments to waves.  Pushed a small update today that fixes some of those issues and makes it much more challenging and balanced.

Thank you so much! And yes it's waaaaaay too easy -you can basically spam notes and cruise through it.  I had plans for a stamina system where you could only lay 'x' amount of notes down depending on what each band member's level was but like many ideas i had for this game I just couldn't work fast enough -am really looking forward to expanding on this game in the near future!  :D

Pretty cool idea! Not very much in way of upgrades, but I get that you can always add more stuff later. The concept is good though, I enjoyed it. I wonder if maybe there's a flaw in that players will value the strength of the wave vs the actual music produced. If you do continue work on it, maybe it would be cool to have waves that are susceptible to certain combinations/rhythms to encourage players to tinker with the melody.

Developer

Thank you! aaaaand you sir are 100% correct, completely agree, in fact I had some plans very similar to what  you're describing.  Like triples for example -in fact I had a bpm and measure system that would let you switch between 4/4 and 3/4 (and speed) so waves would happen like 'duh duh duh pause duh duh duh pause duh duh duh duh duuuuuh' (think metal music lol) and you would need the right rhythm to succeed.  Plus special moves that you could buy for the band and equip before levels so you could swap sheet music.  I had this partially implemented (you can see 5 buttons where the pause/play buttons are now on one of my latest twitter posts if you're curious, was gonna have them let you switch on the fly for exactly that ) buuuuut by the last day i had to comment out a bunch of stuff like that and panic to get everything done last minute for the jam xD   but gotta say I had not considered combinations and that's an awesome idea I may have to throw in!  Thanks again man!

Pretty cool idea, though very confusing to initially figure out. Didn't realize I had to manually start new waves or even build speakers (I thought placing my instruments was enough).

Developer

Ha sorry man, I wanted to make a more intuitive gui but ran out of time -and thanks! :D

Pretty neat idea. I wish I had a better sense of music to get a cool beat going. I like how you don't kill but rather attract them to the stage. Well done.

Developer

I wondered if anyone would appreciate the attracting vs killing aspect :D -and thank you!

Super fun! Very clever spin on tower defense, the step sequencer attack patterns are a great idea and there's an impressive amount of variety packed in here! Definitely hoping you continue working on this, awesome job :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks man!  Definitely going to finish /improve on this one -so much I wanted to add that I didn't get to in time

Right on, really cool to hear you're planning to carry on with this! It's a thoroughly interesting approach to tower defense you've got going on here and it's already really enjoyable in this little prototype, very easy to see it becoming something special. Haha, I understand the pain of having too many burning ideas and not enough time! :)

I may sound picky, but I don't like having to bother installing/uninstalling a game that small... :) Could you please upload an executable version?

Developer(+1)

Noooo I completely understand!  I realized about 10 seconds after i submitted that it was an installer and re-submitted an executable -but i can't seem to update the entry file only my game page (updated version is there)  So sorry about that was in a crazy last minute hurry to submit lol

Developer(+1)

Finally figured it out and replaced installer with executable file -sorry about that!

Love this game! only thing I find annoying is that it hasn't got a lot of content. its easy to kow why though. would have been cool if when you finish 5 rounds the background changes to a desert and maybe different sounds for the desert. if you plan on continuing with the project I would love to watch it grow :)

Developer

Thank you!  and actually i had a whole lot planned here including multiple stages and lots of customization...buuuut i just didn't get there in time  :S  -i was crunchin up til the last minute just to get the core game finished and bugs squashed (there are a few -my updated game page has the latest version which is a bit better) -looking forward to making a full featured game out of this one :D
