Anything you want to say to players before they play?
Play with WASD or the arrow keys to move and use Space Bar to (double) jump. Walk over checkpoints to save your progress. Watch out for the lava, it hurts when you touch it and resets you to the last checkpoint. Be aware though, if you run out of hearts, you have to start all over again.

AD/QD/←→: Left/Right
Spacebar: Jump

Neat platformer. I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum dare 42 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look

The syncing of platforms isn't obvious, and the level design could be much better, but it's nice.

Hey! I just wanted to let you know that a video of one of my playthrough/reviews is up and you're a part of it!
Take a look here:

Developer

Hi there :) About the platforms, they were synced to the notes of the music. But, I agree. It could've been a bit more rhythmic.

Thanks for playing our game. :D

Very interesting game!  The platforms were synced... to something, couldn't quite figure out if it was a musical element or just the beats of the music.  That last platform that played you dirty was kind of hilarious.  They were pretty fast platforms though, like, almost no room for error.

Overall, neat little game, great work!

Nice! I liked the music and those platforms, synced with the music, was really good idea.

I enjoyed this game. I wish there had been more of it. I also really enjoy seeing more Godot games in the jam.

I found the game a little tricky at first, because all I did was read the bottom of your instructions on this page. I didn't see there was double jump. So I skipped the tutorial. After that, it wasn't too hard to beat the level.

And as others have said, I don't think the music was really synced to any of the platforms, but I think with a little work you could get that done for real, and have a pretty neat game.

Really lovely vibe from the game, I wished the platforms were synced with the music. The controls are quite responsive, and I love that I can double jump, which saves me quite a lot of time when the platforms have not raised up and I needed to rest in the air. However, I don't think it the double jump should be used that way. If you wanted to make the platforms move on the beats and players failed to do so, they should be punished by losing health and be able to practice their timing skill. In fact, the double jump might not be needed in this game even and can be replaced by a higher jump, or you can replace that by the ability to hold in the air for a short while, which I think is more intuitive and way cooler. The platform movement is a bit sudden too, there should be some indication for their state being changed, a shrug, some dust, etc. Again, this is not to say I don't love the game. I also went with the platform moving on beats in my game so I totally appreciate what you did there. In fact, if you just keep it like this but make the platform sync to music and throw in some more challenging platforming sections similar to the way the floor is lave exploited a simple mechanic and makes it fully elaborated, you will have a great game!

Those visuals are pretty nice! I didn't really feel how the platforms were in sync with the music, but the level-design is still good and challenging. Well, except for the very last platform, strangely hard to reach!^^' But it's quite solid overall. Good job!

It took awhile to get the right rhythm for the jumping but your relaxing music made sure it was not a frustrating experience.

This was a very enjoyable platformer. The double jump mechanic felt very satisfying. The music was  peaceful, am always a fan of just piano, but I am not sure if it fits escaping a volcano. I enjoyed how all the art looks together, and the sprite of the cat looks especially nice.

Something about the base movement looks strange. Hard for me to explain, but the sprite looks glitchy when moving to me.

One of the best game not made by me in this jam so far I have seen.

I give extra points for that kitty you made.

Please tell me how did you make it?

Developer

Thanks! I didn't make the kitty myself, it is found in a open source pack as stated on the description of the game. I only made the victory animation myself, which was done in Photoshop

I like the art and music on this one, its peaceful and the kitty is really cute! The physics could use a little work however, jumps feel a little flat and a platform falling beneath you disabled the ability to double jump.

Developer

Thanks for your kind words! The kitty is from a pack so isn't made by us. Thanks for the feedback on the jump mechanic, the ability to double jump was intended to only work as an extra jump in mid-air, so when you're falling you can only jump once in mid-air (as opposed to jumping once on a platform and then a second time in mid-air). Maybe it would have been better to make it a maximum of two jumps, no matter if the first one was on a floor or not. Thanks again!

The game works fine, however I didn't see the point of platforms synced to the music. Maybe some background music with more sense of rhythm would work better for this game.

Developer

I agree with you on your point about a more rhythmic background music, that's a solid suggestion!

Developer

Though, originally the platforms was supposed to be more like a visualizer for the notes of the song piece and its rhythm. That's one really great suggestion. You're right. I'll work on re-arranging it and having the rhythm being pronounced more.  Hopefully, we'll be able to set it.

Thanks for playing our game and for that really insightful comment :D
