Welcome to the devlog of Dom and Kait!

We plan to make a post every day describing our progress working on our game. Hope you enjoy reading!

Day 0: Friday12 am CEST

So when the topic pride was first announced, Kait and me were pretty clueless on what to do. Before, we had some sort of idea what we want to do and we will have even more ideas when they announce the topic. But nah xD. Well, it took us a while, but the brainstorm eventually got rolling. We were interpreting the topic pride differently, not the obvious gay pride, but rather "brave" pride. The basic idea for our game then turned out to be a platformer, taking place in the protagonists brain, where he has to fight his insecurity and anxiety throughout his whole life.

The levels would be different stages of the players age in different fitting situations. in every situation, the protagonist would be anxious about making some sort of move, but by beating a level, finding the bravery tokens and defeating the evil boss "anxiety" at the end, the player would achieve maximum bravery to make the move.

Basic idea all set, went on to think about essentials, such as environment design, sounds, player movement, level design and so on. Shoutouts to Kait for her great ideas! I am really thrilled about what artwork she will come up with. This is a way harder task then what im doing i think.

Day 2: Sunday 12 am CEST

Some basics have been done, setting up the project within Unity and linking it with the Unity Team feature, so Kait can work directly in the same Project. Im looking to do some basic movement scripting for the player, as well as maybe a camera script for sidescrolling. Using some placeholder images for graphics, i can try and build some platforming sections before Kait finished the assets.

Overcoming the time zone difference Germany/East coast US is quite a task. We are positive to get something finished, even if its just a level. My plan is to have it at least 3 levels and some nice boss fight at the end. What really thrilled me was Kait saying she would work more on this with me after the jam is finished. Im really looking forward to making this as cool as possible! Thanks for doing this with me Kait!

hello hello, it’s Kait. I’ve had the cold from hell the past two - three days so I haven’t commented in devlog yet.

Day 0 - Brainstorming

What Dom said, but they did a hell of a lot more of the thinking than they let on. I mostly just asked questions, lol.

Difficulty is relative, I think. Coding scares me, I always assume I’m gonna accidentally press the auto-immolate computer button I assume lives within all software.

Day 1

Managed to roll out of cocoon and roughed out a few concepts for the platform part of the platformer. Thought about colors a lot.

Day 2

Realized thru cold haze I should prolly figure out what the overall look of the game will be. Managed to rough out 2 concepts, but will probably manage at least one more either later today or tomorrow.

if you have concepts you should definitely post them here as images! it'd be cool to visualize what you're working on. (also don't forget to post new replies to the topic to bump your thread)

Day ... 5? I think?

Working on tiles now. here is the top center so far. I might lessen the highlights and maybe mess with the "cap" patterning.

these are the concepts.  I like 2 and 4 the best but I'm worried about contrast and readability.

screenshots because the full file is slightly too big for itch. today I'll keep working on tiles and figure out sprites.
