This is going to be my first game jam.
I am Software Engineer by trade and used C++ for a while.
For my first post for this log would be some quick decisions for my game in this jam.
I haven't made anything yet other than some concept art and a quick note of what I hope the game to be.
Game Name: Kawaii Shoot em' up
Genre: Arcade Rail Shooter
Game Engine : Unreal Engine 5.1
So for this game jam I decided to not follow the theme or I may end up accidently
make something that vaguely follows the theme of "Growth" which may be possible if I
think hard enough.
Arcade rail shooters are a type of genre that I really am fascinated ever since I played StarFox and House of the dead.
I will be making this game in the form of an arcade game in mind. That means put some imaginary credits for continue (nothing real just for the feeling of playing an arcade game).
The controls would be a point and fire setup with reload being a click outside the screen or maybe press the right mouse button for fast fire action. I am planning of doing a setup in which the player would be taking cover after releasing the spacebar and at the same time function as the reload for the player's weapon.
For the vertical slice of this game I will focus on just trying to get these mechanics and controls setup. I tried to keep myself from creating too much imaginary mechanics before starting the jam.
The Art style of this game I want to make a very cute anime style. No humanoid enemies it would all be fantasy characters. Either slimes or animal characters. I am not too sure of the story the idea is to actually not have a morbid game but a feel good game. So the circumstances of the characters ending up in a situation of shooting at each other will have to be something light hearted like a party game.
Learning goal
There are a few things I want to learn in this game jam.
1. Finish a game in a timely manner.
2. Expand skills by polishing a small game and learning how to do that exactly.
For this game I am doing it alone but I am going to try to make most of my assets very simple.
Thank you for reading and I hope to see some amazing games this jam!
