A really great start you have here! It took me a while to realize holding the fire button was making me move slow. Otherwise, I had a great time and played through it twice in a row. :D
10/10 would play again!
this is the cutest (and most forgiving!) bullet hell i’ve played — not that i’ve much experience with the genre — and i’m definitely looking forward to the full game :3
Super cool cute-em-up! I really like these types of games. The bullet hell aspect of this game felt challenging but fair. Really liked the boss fight and the sprite animations. The art style is great, but I had a little trouble with the backgrounds, the consistent laneway the forest creates makes me think those tiles are solid, restricting all my movement to the middle of the screen. You might be able to break this perception by having the trees cross over the player's path a few times, but am not sure how you're restricted by memory space for that.
The music is awesome, but without sound effects, it doesn't quite feel as satisfying as it deserves. Part of my appreciation for shmups stems from all the juicy SFXs creating that interactive pew-pew soundscape. I only offer this as constructive feedback because that music is legitimately perfect for the game.
Hoping development continues on this, I'd love to play through more levels.
I like the cute look of this game! The music is great, although I'd appreciate some more sound effects. Maybe it is just my perception, but sometimes enemy attacks didn't seem to hit when I expected them to. I like the wide stream of "bullets" that come from firing! It seems like firing continues for a little while even after releasing the button - maybe that's intentional. I also like how the player's movement slows while firing - that's a nice detail. Good job!
Interesting preview ! i can´t wait the final release. A video in your honor.
Really nice cute 'em up ! Bullet hell with cute graphics, what do you need more than that :) . Gameplay feels good, though I think you could benefit from changing background now and then to avoid repetition. Enemies are great, I like a lot different bullet patterens that they have.
Good work Nia_prene !
Thanks for the feedback and the kind words! Yes I agree the static background aren't incredibly engaging. This is actually my first NES game (and the first piece of software I've ever written outside of a few tools I've made for the game), and to keep myself on task I chose and NROM Configuration and I decided not to update backgrounds while scrolling. I really wanted to focus solely on the gameplay. Next game will feature dynamic scrolling backgrounds along with a larger cartridge space as I will feel more comfortable with the hardware and programming.
Solid schmup mechanics :)
Having an enemy health bar for the boss would be a good addition. Makes the end of the level more dramatic and exciting.
Nice work.
thank you for the feedback! That is definitely on my list of niceties for the final release
