Great job submitting a game! The current version of the game is a lot different than when you first submitted but its super cool to see the progress. I love the visuals, I am always down for pirate/ship games. I like the concept of a game centered around a dying MMO event, its got a certain charm to it.
The grind is kinda brutal. Once I got a hold of the timing to finally win, I had to wait awhile for more small boats to spawn. Maybe there could be a higher spawn rate of small boats at the start of the game. I had fun playing. Thanks for submitting!
I didn't get much sense of how the combat is supposed to work. I ran out of bombs on the first attempt, then every time after that it just went straight to failure and loss of gold without switching screens.
I played the offline version. I think this jam has solidified my distaste in the dragonruby engine. Both the offline games I've played that used it made a window the full size of my screen and without a window handle.
It's indeed a bit of a mess. It's kind of an auto-combat that you can help along with bombs, but yeah, it's not very interesting or fun. I actually redid that completely for the Dying MMO Jam version, if you want to have a look at it.
As for Dragonruby, I'm not so sure about it either. It was fun to play around with something new, but there's a whole bunch of stuff that it either can't do or goes about it in a weird way, so I'm not sure I'll be returning to it.
Thanks! Yeah I kinda got sidetracked doing the fun but unimportant stuff like visual flourishes or making a minimap and ran out of time putting the actual game in :D
The original idea was basically that you're trying to hunt a white whale before the MMO you're playing shuts down, so you battle other players and level up until you're strong enough to defeat it. Maybe I'll make it in time for the Dying MMO Jam that part of that was inspired by, but I'm already getting lost in the next fun-but-useless coding exercises, so we'll see :D

Neat game! I included it in my Nokia 3310 Jam 4 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)

Seems like a cool idea and a good start, but I wasn't really sure what I was supposed to be doing.
I really like the art and style though. Fit perfectly

those other things are also important.
I think this is a cool concept and I’d love to see an update if you ever do get around to it.
