I really love the graphics and the art of this game!  I also got the music stuck in my head so nice job haha.  Excellent job on the Audio, Art, and Design.  Love the design of the game too.  I really like the curved screen effect.   The only thing I would suggest to make this game more fun is make it a little easier to place the mark.   It's quite hard and can be frustrating to place the mark where you want it.  Maybe reduce the timer slightly for holding down space.  I couldn't figure out the exact mechanic for placing the mark.  Other than that this is a super well made game!

Nice platformer with Spectrum feeling to it. You might consider changing Space key behavior to somewhat more consistent or provide some kind of feedback for how long I need to keep the key before the mark appears - I've been confused a little like most of the people in comments :)

Other than that - really well-polished game. Good job!

thanks for your feedback, I am working on the space key.

Nice graphics! Found the leaving behind one of me mechanic challenging and unpredictable though. I included it in my Open Jam compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)

Okay. I played trough it, but I have to say that that third level made me absolutely hate the game. Probably took me 10 restarts and once I even accidentally reloaded the whole page due to an angry click. The mark/block leaving mechanic just didn't feel well implemented and I could never judge where it would appear, especially so in the third level where the platforms were tiny. The collision of those blocks also felt way off especially when trying to do a tricky jump from below a block, in a question mark pattern. I also felt like I was dying to the spikes when I should've been safe, which added to my frustration.

Nice retro aesthetic, but the scanline shader is a bit extreme especially vertically. I'm really sorry to say this, but it was fun to watch, not fun to play.

Edit (after getting a cup of tea and calming down a bit). For some reason platformers, especially more hardcore ones really get under my skin. I might just not like the genre.

Thank you for your feedback, I checked to see if the hitboxes of the spikes were off, and you were right, that has been fixed(I am working on a post-jam version). The marking mechanic is indeed a bit rushed, although I have to say that I have caused the marks to appear with a slight time lag. It felt like the game would have been too easy and boring without it in my opinion.

I fell in love with the game's look right away.  Really charming.  Like the other commenters I had some trouble using the space bar predictably, but I didn't much care since just jumping around and listening to the music was so enjoyable.

thank you, I am glad you enjoyed the game

I love the graphics with the simple style and the CRT-like distortion. I could not figure out how to play correctly, I was able to collect the key, but pressing space to leave the mark almost never worked.

Ok, after reading below's comments I tried again and could finish the first levels. The marking function is a bit unpredictable.

Hey guys - Unable to jump over the first wall and the space key doesn't work most times....

What am I doing wrong?

I played it a little bit, it seems leaving a mark is tied to distance covered instead of it happening immediately when you press space which seems like a strange way to do it, try holding space and run up and jump to the wall if that makes sense.

the mechanic can indeed be a little bit difficult to use but when you get the hang of it, it will become easier.

if you want to leave a mark hold space and move around. the marks will appear behind you with a slight time lag.
