This was really good. I played on both phone and pc and it worked well on both. Everything looks fantastic!

On phone, it'd be nice to lock orientation to landscape. Only problem I had was telling where the higher ground was, as the tiles blended right into the lower so well, there wasn't an apparent edge seam.

Thanks! Yeah, I think I could have definitely fixed that issue with the higher edges thinking back on it. Seems to be a common piece of feedback I've received so In the future it'll be a priority for sure! Glad you played both versions and liked them! :)

Impressive and feature rich.  I had a blast playing this game.  Brought back some FF9 memories.  That says a lot! 

I know it's a jam and all but if you're going to continue on the game and to juice it up, I'd suggest having the character have additional animation when turning from left to right, up to down, up to left, etc.  Cheers and great work!

Thanks a ton. Really glad you liked it. The forest does kinda have the same feel as the forest towards the begining of FF9. I actually tried to have the diagonal frames (even rendered them out) but the SMILE engine does not support them by default (yet) so getting it to work with a work around ended up being too buggy for my liking. Appreciate the kind words!

When people say "Play my game and tell me what you think!" I usually yawn, try it out for a few minutes, and then delete the game. This was NOT the case...  I was entranced from the start, I loved the ambience of the the first level and the village, and loved the characters... I could tell that a lot of work went into the tiniest of details, like... did you see the blob breathing? The grass was animated? Who takes time to animate 2d grass? I also loved the aggro effect from some of the enemies, as well as the definite immersion.

Grind was a tiny bit repetitive... I WOULD have liked to see a few other starter monsters, like... say a flying bug of some sort, and maybe more varied loot from the start. However, I'm pretty sure that the author would have had a hundred different critters running around if he had more time.

I also liked the fixed camera outside, rotating camera inside idea... that worked out well, as when you rotate outside, sometimes you lose your sense of direction with the different repetative landforms , whereas the well-placed 'landmarks' insidethe indoors maps helped guide to the different areas indoors regardless of angle.

* Was not laggy at all for me with my HP with AMD E-1, 4GB RAM
* Multi-resolution at start, can definitely aid the low-spec people
* Enough enemies to fight, without crowding the map
*Enough people to talk to in towns without coming off as too much or too little

Dang Jay, thanks for the review! Glad you liked it.  I honestly can't wait to revisit this character and world and elaborate on it. I totally would have had a lot more enemies and even some basic animals running  about without a time limit. It's interesting seeing how the game runs on different hardware, I'll need to do more research on how to make my games a bit more optimized for multi platform as well.

Great game!

Some comments:

  • little bit laggy outside (desktop PC, I7, 8GB memory, GTX1050)
  • indoor rotation is a neat idea

BTW, did you used some asset for the controlling?

thank you! I think the lag is probably not too surprising considering I probably put too much post-processing. What display settings were you using? Also, the controlling comes with the smile game builder engine I didn't have to program any of that.

I'm pretty sure I've got some tough competition. ;)  You'll need to be lvl 4 (or higher)  (oh I said that alreadyLOL) and ice spell it to death. Fire spells heal it.. and.... heal a lot XD unless you get to like lvl 6 or something then you should have a much easier time. maybe... I think...

Yeah, I guess I was thinking it wouldn't make sense to go back there until the mission was over, which is why I put the camping spot (which you can rest at) on the second map. There's honestly nothing back there that would help you anyway. But yeah, I guess I could have left it open anyway. Wouldn't hurt anything either lol
