Things I liked:
Unique gameplay:
The single button idea was very interesting, and very enjoyable once I got the hang of it.
Black and white style:
The assets you chose worked very well.
The player sprite:
The tiny size compared to the giant behemoths was really cool.
Things I disliked:
The level design:
The way the pit was positioned past the giant eye, I would always end up falling in with no way to get out.
The parkour:
The parkour seemed overly difficult, with very tight and skinny platforms on the bottom layer.
The Slough of Despair:
The water/mud was the most frustrating part of this game, it was very slow, and nigh impossible to get out of on the bottom layer.
Things you could do to improve the game:
Level design:
Improving parkour and fixing the water would do a lot for the game.
New enemies:
Some smaller minions would be neat.
Synopsis:
A very novel game with a couple of drawbacks, but fun nonetheless.
Thanks for your entry. :)
Thanks for providing constructive feed-back! I am glad you appreciate the one-button gameplay mechanics and the black-and-white style, and I agree, the level design is far from perfect. There can be a lot of frustration building up once you enter the "Slough of Despair", which kills the fun. It would be easy to fix this problem, and adding smaller monsters would not be too hard.
Hello!
The black and white art style gives the game a nice retro feeling! I thoroughly enjoyed slaying the giants, because of their size. Having to wait in the water was a bit boring. Would play the game through, but the game starts getting laggy over time, causing the player to fall off the map.
Thanks for sharing your experience and happy you enjoy slaying the monsters! I don't know why the game is lagging. Maybe it is the bullets causing a memory leak? Waiting in the water is tedious, I agree.
This game looks solid and once you get it it's quite fun - however, it shares a problem with many games I see here.
It's kind of hard to understand how to play the game - there's very little visual indication of what to do or how to do it. I just found it confusing at first. I would suggest adding more detailed instructions on how to play - also try and make it more intuitive what to do.
With those simple changes - this could be a good game and I like the black and white colour scheme as well as the music.
It's also always a bonus when it's a browser game (which I genuinely have no idea how to do!).
I totally agree. There is need for more explanation. There is only one button to press therefore it is kind of obvious how to attack the monsters, at least for me. But yeah, it is always easy to understand your own creation. Thanks for playing and giving constructive feed-back!
I like the visuals and music of the game. It looks like an old Mac game. It's a hard game to beat though. Interesting idea. Nice job!
Probably the game is too hard. Balancing a game is one of the most difficult aspects of game design. Maybe an introduction level could help.
Really like this! Like the simplicity of the one button mechanic. Maybe it is a little TOO simple when it comes to combat (maybe add extra controls only when in combat?) but generally well executed game, with a cute art style. Good job
Maybe I will add an extra button if it improves the game, but it could be that the level design is not optimal for a one button game. Anyway, thanks for playing!
If you play the game long enough the audio cuts out and if you don't push the jump button you will fall through the level and get soft locked. I am not sure if this is a browser issue but other than that the concept is neat, and the graphics make me feel like I am playing on an original Gameboy! Good Job!
Thanks! I know the music is not looping but I forgot to fix this. The problem with soft locking never appeared for me.
Hi, music plays after I click on the window, but no game shows.
So sorry about that. I could not reproduce this error. When exactly does it appear?
Thank you for your reply; no worries, maybe it's my computer. Here's a screenshot. Music plays in the background, but the screen stays white. The music sounds great, and your page looks good. I'll try it on my PC during the week.
