Description
Genre: Mix of techno and lullaby, a hodgepodge.

DAW: lmms

How I Made It: Just kinda found a key/chord set I liked and rolled with it. A bit of a melody in 'Drifting With The Stars' is from an old placeholder song in a demo I released.

Long sotry desciption: On the planet of Drifter, which is like the last planet or something, people are content. Now, unlike our real world science, stars and suns are different. The planet is mostly hollow and in its center is a very strange sun that is thought to be (and probably is) the last one. The people see from the light of stars, which are basically magical glowing rocks of a 5-pointed shape that are suspended in space.

One day that sun dies with a small supernova/explosion, destroying the planet and its people hanging on to the bits of rubble that are their home. The sun turns into a black hole.

Then, the stars in the sky start drifting towards the remains of planet Drifter, and some fall in. Soon the number of stars in the sky has dropped significantly. If they all disappear the people left will be trapped alone forever in a dark void without light.

As the hero of our story you must find a way to stop this from happening utilizing a device that concentrates the power of star rock to do something impossible: portals! (this is basically a 2D portal in terms of gameplay)

Your journeys take you through places like the ruins of ancient civilizations to a research facility that's built inside a large star! This is where the second track, "Star Death Imminent" plays, when the star is falling into the black hole and you have to escape within a minute Super Metroid style! Thats why the song is a minute long (though all of the songs are a minute long actually...).

That's about all I've thought of. "Drifting With The Stars" is the song that will play through the first few puzzles/tutorial of the game. "Starfall" is like the main theme or some menu/credits song (the game probably won't have very long credits if I make it on my own).

Message from the artist:
A little set of songs themed around space and stars. Hope you enjoy!

Theme:

Wish upon a star

How does it fit the theme?
Its whimsical and spacey, a bit of mystery about what the sky is like and a slight feeling of loneliness and emptiness.
The story is designed to fit the text theme, and the picture could fit as an opening cutscene.

The siren in 'Star Imminent' is a nice touch haha! I really like the urgency it added to the song
I very much enjoy the synth sounds you picked for these pieces because it gives a nice spacey feel
Drifting with the Stars was a real delight especially
Great work ✨🌟

Really cool atmospheres and nice synths. All the tracks feels very professional and worked with attention to details! But above all, I fell totally in love with Drifting with the Stars! Congrats!

I liked the synths you used, they had a lot of character to them and really helped build the identity of each track. Great work!

My favorite track is Star Death Imminent. In that track, I like the driving rhythm and the questioning chromaticism that definitely conveys the danger that is being indicated. I like the portions where the percussion drops out for a bar and then re-emerges. There is also a section at 0:13 where the bass is dancing around another pedal note which creates a lot of tension. Thank you for sharing!

Really liked the atmosphere you created! The story and cover art are super creative and go super well with the feel of your music. Good job!

Haha, I love that alarm siren in Star Death imminent. Simple and creative soundtrack. I could see this in a casual game. Nice job!

That LMMS choir is so nostalgic to me, I've got a soft spot for LMMS sounds in general. The first track is def my favorite for having that choir haha. Definitely get spacey vibes from all these. Nice work!

I think LMMS has a lot of synths and sounds that are very spacey. The user interface is also spacey and futuristic, perfect for making music for this jam! Thanks!

Star Death Imminent is a nice little piece, that I feel goes well together with the story description, and I can imagine stressfully trying to solve puzzles to escape. Nice use of the alarm sound effect here as well. :)

I'm glad you can imagine that! I remember playing some of Super Metroid and I want that kinda frantic feeling of jumping around and not quite being able to do things perfectly, but with puzzles that are easy enough to be doable in a minute but tricky enough to be frustrating in a timed situation. Kind of a similar vibe to when the suns going to explode soon in Outer Wilds.

I really enjoyed Drifting With The Stars. What a lovely song! The rest of your tracks were well done as well!

I think I put most of the time I spent on these tracks (which actually wasn't very long, me being pretty busy, so a total of 3-4ish hours?) into Drifting With The Stars. The (well, one of the) melody(s) I used in it was from a placeholder song I called "Drifting Alone," but that felt to dark for the song so that got changed. Thank you!
