Description
For this jam, I wanted to dive deeper into using an orchestra for composing. Both the theme and artwork inspired me to take a 'heroic'/fantasy approach. I created two pieces that share the same motifs, but tell a different story. With the first track, titled 'A Bygone Age', I tried to set up a story of a land where both the protagonist of the imaginary game and her Dragon companion hail from. Nothing but the memories of its former glory remain. This track is meant as an introduction to the state and backstory of the region (parts of the) imaginary game would take place in.

For the second track, titled 'Above the Clouds', I wanted to reshape the solemn feeling of the first track into something more grand. For this piece, I imagined the protagonist and her companion soaring above the clouds, having found peace and power during their travels in their former homeland.

Theme

Chronicles of the Azure Sky: The White Dragon's Melody
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
As mentioned above, I envisioned the protagonist and her dragon companion (as inspired by the artwork) making a journey to their now-destroyed homeland. The melody in both pieces are very similar and were meant to serve as a'theme' or sort of anthem for this region. In the first piece, a single trumpet starts off the piece. This represents the long-lived dragon's memories of its homeland. Later, a second trumpet comes in and in some parts contrasts, and in other parts complements the first trumpets notes. This is meant to represent the few but meaningful memories of the protagonist of the region.

In the second piece the same theme plays, but after the initial 'conclusion', the song continues and ends with a second theme. This is supposed to represent the second part of the 'anthem', which the protagonist and the dragon 'unlocked' near the end of their journey to their homeland together.

Loved the contrast of the calmness of the first track with the more powerful and royal feeling second track. Definitely an anthem feel to it! Great work!

Above the Clouds was epic and I like how you use choir for supporting harmonies. It's very regal/militant with all the crash cymbals, snare/Timpani & horns - great use of percussion overall.
