  • the vampire survivor game model is always a winner :) I think you did amazingly for a first try. more effects than ones that just a simple circle around the player would make it feel a little bit better and less repetetive, and more interesting. making more enemies spawn would make some more urgency to it and force the player to move around a little more. try to keep the pressure up so that the player doesn't lose interest too fast. adding a few different weapons would be a nice touch with some different sound effects for them, but honestly. just keep on the track you are now. make games and learn new things. :D

Did you include your Game Design Document as a Google Drive link?
Yes

Seriously... did you include your Game Design Document?
YOU WANT PROOF?! ;) https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vR4F9y3nENTenT_KGRQo7wOlRGQfHfxk4_WUdTrjxS9T25jgaJJUeN007SmVyPDQmMAw5kdDDvUS4pJ/pub

Is your game set to Public so we can see it?
Yes

Tell us about your game!
The player is an Alchemist who hopes to find forgotten research in the Lost City so that they can claim the power for themself. But the Alchemist is surprised to find The Dim living here in the ruins. They stand between the Alchemist and the research.

Top down, single player experience, where all the weapons are passively activated, like in Vampire Survivors. The player kills ever-stronger hoards of The Dim (shadow) enemies for a chance of them dropping essence (light). Their drops are collected inside the player’s lodestone staff when the player is close enough to the drops. The lodestone can be upgraded in capacity to contain more essence. Essence is the HP of the player.

Occasionally, the player will come across a glowing Athanor (forge). Inside this Athanor, an item is presented to the player in exchange (transmutation) for essence. The player has a choice: how much of their HP do they spend to become stronger? Rejecting the transmutation will not allow the Athanor to be used for a short while, encouraging the player to sometimes take weapons they otherwise would not.

Light is called “essence”. Shadow is called “dim”. The enemies are called “The Dim”. This is not “Atlantis”, but instead the “Lost City”.

As an aside, I've always loved games I can play with one hand so I can sit more comfortably. I've brought that to life here with my first video game!

Extra Notes
Please give me feedback! This is my first video game, but I'd really like to get better at it! Just be nice while still being truthful haha. I understand it's very rough around the edges, but I'd appreciate feedback regarding the potential for the idea/story and gameplay, rather than what it actually is right now.

Keep up the great content and being a light in the community!

And for anyone else reading this, you are appreciated! This is a lot of work going through all of these submissions. But I hope you are at least having fun!!

First of all, nice choices on the sprites/artwork and music! It feels very cohesive with one and another.

The concept of trading your life points for upgrades is interesting! I can see it being able to be developed upon in many different ways.

Quite well done for your first game! Pretty much all of the systems work as intended, and with the exception of the room boundaries, I don't remember encountering any weird glitches.

There's quite a bit of things you can learn as you keep game deving, like art, music, and etc. It's a long but fun road. I hope to see you next jam. Keep making stuff!
