  • Idea of the game is very funs and interesting and the theme was implemented in a quite well. The execution is a bit lacking as I faced few issues playing where cards wouldn't mix or I couldn't shoot anu card, or enemies just gluing to my character. Over all it is very good game keep this up.

The main mechanic of Light for Hire is using cards that you have selected from your loadout to get rid of all of the enemies in each stage of the game. The enemies are member of the Dusk gang, who are a group that uses shadow magic to cause chaos where ever they go. The story revolves around a light slinger, Lumiere, that infuses his cards with light magic and gives them their color. This leads to each color having a different effect but still allows all of them to dispel the shadow-like darkness that encapsulates each member of the Dusk gang. In this instance Lumiere is hired by Governor Sombra to get rid of all of the members that are hiding around town. The rest of the story can be experienced through playing the game. A level may be difficult to some at first but you are given the option to change your card loadout and retry the level. The controls are shown in the game description and there is also a button in the main menu to display them.

Extra Notes
After the game jam we would like to expand more on this game with different towns that have different challenges and also different color cards that have different effects. We also want to be able to add the mixing of colors; which would give the player an effect of the combination of colors mixed. More levels would also give room for more story and we also hope to add interactive dialogue. This was not possible during the game jam due to time restrictions and the possibility of balancing issues. Team Vbug, like all other participants of the game jam, put a lot of time, attention to detail, and effort into making this prototype. We hope that the gameplay loop, as simple as it is, is enjoyable and thank you for playing it.

Cool art, setting and music, good western vibes! Is the card mechanic inspired by the Twisted Fate ability? Loved it.

Glad you liked it! And yeah the mechanic is inspired by Twisted Fate W.

As a recovering league of legends addict, this brought me back! It's a nice mechanic to use in a shootemup game. The pixelart is very cute too!

Glad I could I could allow someone to have a positive reaction and  the thought of League of Legends in the same sentence

Hey, someone else that made a cowboy game! That game is really rad! I really enjoyed it!!

Developer

That's actually so funny we both had gameplay revolving around that theme.
