  • This is a cool idea and the story you've created is interesting. I think it incorporates the shadow and alchemy themeswell. I think combat could be more interesting if I was able to see the enemy's health bar. I also think more visual cues could make it easier to navigate. Initially, the doorways didn't really stand out, so it was really easy to miss where there were openings to other rooms. I do think some more custom assets would make the overall art style more unique, but I think the pre-purchased assets are a good start. One thing that may have been a bug was that I couldn't use the retry button in the game over menu, and had to refresh the page to start over when I died.
  • Lovely old school jrpg feel. Great sound design. Excellent implementation of the theme and creating a world to support the theme. The story pulled me in from the start. The in game guide was very helpful and appropriately timed. GG!
  • good game from the gameplay, style, and the mechanices, plus I like the fight scene ui, this game shows you know the engine very well to make something on theme so quickly
  • You know what you have here. You're good at it. It's very polished. The only thing I'd fix is that I wasn't sure where the doors were. As someone who doesn't normally play the JRPG FF remake genre, it was difficult for me to figure out where the next place to go was.

The Shadow Chaser is a short classic JRPG about Lucia, a witch that helps people possessed by Shadows, demons that manifest from extreme negative emotions, by exorcizing them. When Lucia’s sister is possessed by an immensely powerful Shadow, she must take drastic measures to become stronger in the limited time she has before her sister is lost forever.

Extra Notes
I made this game by myself in about a week's time since I found this game jam a bit late. I still had a lot of fun working with a theme I generally don't care for though, other than the time spent banging my head against the wall trying to figure out a few bugs of course!

Great little experience.  I thought the story was cool and the core gameplay loop was strategic and satisfying.  Nice job!

Developer

Thank you!  I wasn't sure if the gameplay aspect was interesting enough, so I'm glad to hear you liked it!

Great story and theme adaptation.
Very impressive work. I used to make RPGs on "RPG Maker XP" back in the days.

Developer

RPG Maker is great for making games without too much of a fuss, but it has its limits. Which is why I'm moving onto Godot!

Wow, that's a cool game. Great visuals! Music volume is too loud as for me, but the music and SFX themself is awesome. Good job!

Developer

Thank you! You're right, the music is indeed too loud now that I look back at it. You can change the volume in the settings menu if you like though!
