  • I'm blown away, very polished and playable. I immediately thought of Kirby initially from smash, but the mechanics and locomotion are so different in execution it's really it's own thing! Well thought out art design for the game. Nailed the cute to dark theme balance you set out in your GDD. Animations for the player character are absolutely smooth. I didn't see any seams or odd graphics bugs. I was immersed and just focusing on controls and mechanics and dying a lot mastering the physics. I did spend a lot of time on the charge-jump tutorial. Nailing the jump and move is difficult with how little friction the player has. Kept falling off the two pillars there over and over, spending most of my allotted time there. Either a bit more friction or more fall direction control to course correct just a bit more. It was a little difficult lining up the down-A combos to actually attack enemies. But I did finish all the levels and got the slime to his bed finally. Loved the level designs and inherent challenges, the difficulty always ramped up just enough to keep me on my toes and controller. Really want to call out your controller support for this game, well done! No missed inputs, thumbstick response was great and comfortable. Good use of theme and implementation. Well written GDD and roadmapping. The other feedback I was going to give was already planned in the "BEYOND" schedule of your GDD, flashing when reaching maximum level. Great Tooltips and credits at the end. This was a fun and complete prototype.

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes

Summarise your game!
Platformer where you need to compress your body (by tackling or stomping from air) to do damage with your body. It's essentially a Super Mario bros. but with a slime and you must do an action to be able to hurt enemies.

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
First real game I've developed. I used some old humble bundles for some art, sound effects and music.
Bought the tileset.
Links to all assets I used in the credits.
I created the slime and foes by hand. Created the levels and all extra scripting (bed, resets, transitions and such).
If you want to jump over a level, press 'N' to start next level.

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
Hopefully a few words on the project as complete, but minimal game.

The slime character was cute and the animations were good. I like the slam and stomp mechanics but the controls felt slippery over all. I spent a lot of time missing platforms or sliding off the edge.

Thank you for testing my game. I'll improve the movement when the Game Jam is over. Thanks for the nice words about the character and animations. I did them myself.

Really liked the use of negative space, also the tasty foilage on the later levels

super-jumping didn't feel super intuitive. I'd suggest maybe another key combo? alternatively a double jump where second jump is just a slight boost

great idea with implementing a cheat/skip level, ensures people are able to get a slice of all the levels at least :D

Thank you!

Really nice game. I though I would have trouble controlling the character because of how slippery it feels, but this setting isn't so bad.

Nice Atmosphere, cute ending. Decrease deceleration tho, was fun.

Thanks for the nice comment. Yes, other people have stated that movement wasn't perfect...
