  • Nice to see that all the mechanics are working super well. The driving feels really good, which is never a given when making cars in games, specially given the fact that you have physics involved. Interesting little intro story, and the bad review idea linked very well with it. In the GDD, it would be pretty valuable to add more details. Remember, the GDD is a tool for the developers, not for showing the game to others. The main importance of a having a detailed GDD is that it gives a clear reference to the whole team on how things should be, what is important in the game, what is the ideal way you want the end product to be, how mechanics work and how they interact with each other. Having this reference throughout the development can help focus on whats important and reduces reiteration. I'd say the main things that the game is missing right now are juiciness and variety, which are not generally things you would be able to do withing a jam deadline, so more so some ideas for the future of the project. Juiciness is about adding more feedback to actions, making it clear that changes are happening. Things like the car tilting or sliding a bit when turning, with some added sound effects, tire marks when breaking, a better indication to the boost. These kinds of small details can add a lot to the player experience, even when they are purely aesthetic. When it comes to variety would be some change in between clients. Maybe you need to run into specific obstacles for a run, maybe a mission that you need to destroy something instead of taking a client. Variations like that, on top of the story progression would add a lot to the game.

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes

Summarise your game!
Review system to show how many "yelp" stars you got.
Driving a car using wasd to pickup and dropoff passengers (space to break, shift to boost when unlocked)
Dithering on cars that block the player vision.
Procedural world.
Chat bubbles for story (In an ideal world we would have the passengers conversing with the driver using the chat bubbles but it might not make it in the final cut)
Upgrade system to use the money you receive from transporting customers.
Timer system to limit the amount of time a customer is willing to pay you for (not putting them at their dropoff location on time gives you 0 money)

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
The direction we took with this theme was that in order to exact revenge on your boss for firing you. You use the company car (taxi) to cause damage to the company’s reputation by driving poorly.

I had a good time with this, played, and upgraded the speakers (the music was great) and the boost. Like the other controls, the boost is very touchy. Like turning was super exaggerated, which could have been what you were going for because anytime you went off-road, you were doomed to fail that run. The friction in the grass went to absolute nothing, which is fun but seems like a big punishment with the short amount of time you have. And yeah, honestly if you polished out some camera jiggles and controls this would be a very fun, very addicting crazy taxi-like. It would have been cool if there was some feedback with the plot/theme into the mechanics. Good job!

I had fun with this! The time is hard to make on most runs

Really enjoyed the cartoon style and sassy dialogue. It did feel that the very short timer mixed with the buttery physics was a bit punishing for my preference. But it's great you were able to do a procedural world in the timeframe of a game jam.

I like the idea and it is fun to drive around! I did feel like the timer was really short. I like the wonky controls, but the short timer coupled with the fact that you don't get paid if you're late make it pretty hard for me.
