  • The game features a really cute art style, and the sound effects were well-done. The added strategic element of the three-dash limit felt quite challenging at first, but after a few minutes of play, I got used to it. However, I felt that the damage output could be slightly increased, as it sometimes took 6-9 dashes to take down a single enemy. That said, it was still incredibly satisfying to line up a group of enemies and dash through them all in one swift attack. While I glanced at the "training" section, a more thorough explanation of each ability’s effects would have been helpful without the need to go to the Inventory to see those Information. Your GDD is well-structured and covers all necessary details, but it could benefit from more images—especially GIFs showcasing specific mechanics. Overall, this was a fun and engaging game! Keep up the great work!

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes

Summarise your game!
RIGHTEOUS BAD AXE (RBA) is a Physics / Base Defense game about preventing goblins from stealing your “friends” by commanding a sentient axe to intercept and dispatch waves of thieving goblins.

Backstory is in the training section of the main menu as well as the controls.

To summarize, the player finds themself reincarnated as a sentient axe. Standard movements do not exist, everything is based on propulsion and gravity!

Goblins in the story once overheard someone say "One man's trash is another man's treasure"... and took the adage literally. You must now protect your trash loot!

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
The player character is a sentient axe and is the weapon. Inspired by many games that you will see mentioned in the GDD, the mechanics focus on thrusting your body around to damage goblins!

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
Please look in the training section for instructions and backstory! I hope you enjoy!

The derpy goblins were super cute and knocking them out of the air was fun. Even though I saw the note about the hotbar in the tutorial screen I ended up not using it much because it was hard to do that plus run the mouse (on a laptop).

Thank you for the feedback! I think I was overly ambitious in my planning stages and did not give enough time to properly onboard the player in an engaging way. I took your feedback to heart, and I agree. The next update I push to itch features a new way to activate abilities via combo inputs. Again, thank you for the feedback!

I think the goblins or the axe were a little too small, making it hard to hit consistently to get on a satisfying roll

It was also a bit confusing starting with a whole bunch of items with different icons - where it is a little unclear what it does

With that said - It offers some good arcady action as it is already :D

Thank you for playing and providing input. I really flubbed the opportunity to provide good usability and player onboarding. To be 100% transparent, I ran into some unexpected behaviors with tool tips and pop up windows and did not have enough time to fix it properly and had to concede to do a final submit a couple hours before deadline. Although I learned in the process, I am very disappointed in myself for the poor usability. Along with the other feedback I received, I hear you and I am doing away with mmo - style hotbar and transitioning to unlockable abilities which will be activated with combo inputs. Again, thank you for taking time to review and leave a comment!
