  • An interesting take on tower defense with a wheel. The game had some fps drops but nothing too major. the enemies spawns got out of control after a short amount of time requiring a lot of driving back and forth across the map. Simple game loop with a good execution but could definitely use more tweaking on the controls especially the drift feature. The screen would occasionally go black after acquiring spinach which prompted me to restart my run. The GDD is well put together only really missing a dev progress roadmap. overall a good start, keep making awesome games!

Yes

Summarise your game!
Kart Wheel is a fast-paced, 3D tower defense game in which you control a runaway kart wheel. Your objective is to defend the tower at the center of the map from hordes of undead monkeys for as long as possible. You are the weapon—the only way to stop the monkeys is by running them over—and you can survive longer by moving efficiently with drifts and speed control, and using power-ups that spawn throughout the map.

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
The player controls a runaway kart wheel, which is the weapon used to stop the hordes of undead monkeys from destroying the tower. To keep with the theme, we really wanted some unorthodox controls, to give the sense that the player really is directly controlling the weapon. In our case, that manifests in forward/backward movement being much more responsive than turning.

Very fun! I wonder what this could have been like if given one more week. I'm impressed with the gameplay!

Thanks so much for playing! I’m glad you liked it!

Interesting idea. I like the atmosphere and the powerups were actually quite fun to use (like the shotgun). Some feedback:

  1. The game gets overwhelming quite quick. There is no way to keep going for a longer while because there doesn't seem to be a way to really prevent damage completely? I tried for quite a bit but maybe I'm just bad.
  2. I think things like the mini map are nice but definitely unnecessary in a game like this and especially if the time spent on that could have been spent on more polish. Especially the level design seems to have suffered from resource allocation.

I think overall though there is potential here for some good hack-and-slashy type gameplay!

Thanks for the advice! We did have quite the back-and-forth pendulum going on the game’s difficulty. A small tweak of the numbers, and the game got way easier or way harder. I felt as though the game we submitted was at as much of a nice medium as we could achieve, but I admit that may be a bit biased as, of course, our game is easier to us than it is to anyone who hasn’t yet seen it. I was able to reach almost 700 seconds with some focused effort—maybe some clarity on how the different mechanics can be used to prevent damage would be in order? Thanks again for playing!
