  • Wonderful stuff! Telling the story of the weapon after the adventure is over is giving me Frieren-vibes, and I love it! As you said, there isn't much depth there, but it's a damn good start. Love the art style, definitely stick with it. The movement was a bit off, even with sprint it seemed clunky. There are lots of bugs to fix with AI as well as action mapping (I couldn't sprint and attack at the same time), as well as clicking during the auction bugging it out and making me get stuck (thank you for the skip intro option); but hey, it's your first attempt with AI, and it's really good. Much better than anything I can do! Please keep working on this, I can feel myself getting lost in the story and sense of adventure!

Yes

Summarise your game!
Tale of Weapons: Branch and Blade is a roguelite adventure story game with a light-hearted style.

You play as a weapon that will experience many different adventures which alter depending on who is wielding you.

Combat:
You can block, attack, & dodge, all of which are altered by the speed of your wielder and the weight of you (the weapon).
If you time a block you parry the attack and have a increased chance to disarm the character.
Don't block for too long, characters that wield weapons made of stronger materials will chip away at your durability!

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
You are a weapon embarking on a journey too.. Wherever the person who is holding you wants to go!

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
While the game itself doesn't have much variety / depth, it has all the ingredients to easily expand the game, this prototype acts as a trailer for the systems we've used and I hope it is clear on our direction. :)

Not sure what happened but when I got to the beach scene there were some text blips with numbers but then nothing happened and everything seemed to freeze. Waited about 20 seconds and nothing happened.

I really like the premise and the music but what little combat I did experience was difficult to visually understand and there seemed to be really long cooldown periods on actions.

Overall I could see this game being neat. I hope you learned a lot from this game jam!

Nice job! The art style and story telling fit very well together. Also couldn't figure out how to progress beyond the bidding.

Sadly content ends with the bidding and running around town, the game at this stage is just a demonstration of the systems we created, thank you for playing :)

Really polished art and narrative, great job! I think I got softblocked (or didn't know how to continue) after the pirates were bidding on me; the last one opted out and I smashed all the buttons on my keyboard and controlled for a minute or so to no avail. But playing up to that point was super fun, great job!
