I like the idea and the gameplay in the fundamental level. It's fun to free people from the enemy ships and upgrade your own ship. After figuring out what to do and getting over the controls, I found it quite a bit of to play this.

My two qualms are indeed the controls and the enemy ships being hard to chase due to them being so fast. Being able to play with keyboard or gamepad only would have been great instead of having to click the icons on the screen. Artificially making the enemy ships slower than the player's ship would have been nice too.

But, well, I know fully well how hard it is to make 3D games, nevermind in two weeks, so in that respect this is quite a good game. Add a fancy water shader, character animations, some piratey music and... Yeah, doing all that solo in such a short time is a really, really tall order, so what you have done is already a huge a achievement!

I ran out of time to get all of the keyboard and gamepad controls in,

and the player is actually faster than like for like boats.

So if you have the following ships:

Player Boat V, Enemy >Small DinghyLarge DinghySmall SailboatLarge SailboatSmall GalleonLarge Galleon
Small DinghyPlayer FasterSame SpeedPlayer SlowerPlayer SlowerPlayer SlowerPlayer Slower
Large DinghyPlayer FasterPlayer FasterPlayer SlowerPlayer SlowerPlayer SlowerPlayer Slower
Small SailboatPlayer Faster
Player FasterPlayer FasterSame SpeedPlayer SlowerPlayer Slower
Large SailboatPlayer Faster
Player FasterPlayer FasterPlayer FasterPlayer SlowerPlayer Slower
Small GalleonPlayer Faster
Player FasterPlayer FasterPlayer FasterPlayer FasterSame Speed
Large GalleonPlayer Faster
Player FasterPlayer FasterPlayer FasterPlayer FasterPlayer Faster

This was so that you could reach easier ships to build yourself up easier whilst keeping the difficulty curve for large ships reasonable, i.e. a sailboat shouldn't be able to catch a Galleon but a small sailboat should be able to catch a large sailboat

Oh, I see. Then it must have just been me not being good at predicting where the boats are going. And, well, maybe also getting antsy because of the urge to chase bigger boats than I should. 😅

Hah, this was great! I did have some trouble figuring out what to do at first but then it was smooth sailing (see what I did there?)

At one point I went off the side of the map by accident and gave myself a horrible feeling of vertigo but that’s on me really.

Good work!

glad you liked it, yeh edges of the map are a bit questionable however theoretically you should never fall off as the boats are y locked, but the crew aren't...

didn't really know what to do with it as the navmesh agents don't work well with regular colliders so i couldn't put a wall... I did think of having a force which steared you back towards the center (with a wave graphic) howevefr this was too complex for the time limit

Really cool!

A bit confusing having to click the sword button, also cursor was hard to see on the ocean background - would love to have that as a keyboard button

Still fun to upgrade and seeing the progress! from tiny rowboat to massive galleons

Unfortunately had a few bugs, one example that I kept getting stuck unable to switch back to ship controls after defeating an enemy vessel (kept showing the padlock in the bottom right) - it would take a minute or two before allowing me to continue

Really great work though, I'd love to see it taken further!
