  • This was definitely one of my favourite entries in the jam. A great concept, with solid execution. I really enjoyed the humor and tone of this one. Writing was spot on for the kind of dystopian tech nightmare you were aiming for. The intrusive thoughts also threw some awesome chaos into the mix. I often felt I was being presented with multiple appealing options that made me think twice about my choices. The ending did feel quite anti-climactic. I was hoping I'd get to break the system more thoroughly or create a bit more chaos with more impactful consequences in the bucket-list . Still, the ending did feel apt for what you were setting up - the tech is inherently flawed, leading to a broken experience. I didn't catch how the theme had been integrated, but as an entry in a narrative/ writing focused jam like Ravel, this game still felt like a huge win. Using the app as our interface was a great idea, and execution of this concept was very solid. I get that it was probably your intention, but I did find some of the longer waits, or the terms of service a bit too trying for me as a player. Overall, I think this is an excellent, well crafted entry. It was cohesive and made an impact on me. Well done!

I love the design of the UI itself and the atmosphere created was quite enthralling. My only gripe is that at the point were we had to keep repeating to ourself. It went on longer than I would have personally liked. Unfortunately that's where I stopped.

Maybe I needed something else to keep me hooked til then end but again with game jams, it's all about experimenting. So I'd say my highlight was the basic info sign up section and the audio. Very nice headphone experience.

Hey thanks for playing and for the really great feedback.

I totally agree, and appreciate especially that for you, it just wasn't worth playing. I was aiming to frame it as though it was real, and so a lot of my design choices were following a path of realism, rather than enjoyment. And it's exactly this sort of feedback that tells me I missed the mark. Really appreciate it!

You created a really good sense of atmosphere. The use of sound was brilliantly done it really created a sense of unnerve as I played. I could definitely see myself spending more time trying to get different endings.

It's interesting, but a bit slow-paced for me.  I really liked the UI and dang you wrote a whole terms and conditions!

I would like to see where this goes =D

Developer

Yeah I totally agree! Definitely need to work on the pacing.

It seems like I made a mistake assuming people would not read the Ts&Cs. I fully expected everyone to skip over that.

Thanks for playing and your feedback!

There's a bit of a continuity error in the writing. I noticed for the username bit you have to have a 2 word username entered but once you get to "chatting" with your "matches" they all have  1 word usernames. I like the concept though, really gives off the vibe of that advice that was floating around a few years ago of what questions to ask to get closer to people.

It would be great if you have time to make a more branching narrative to make it where answers determine which group you end up in.

Thanks for playing and for your feedback.

I never even considered that username interpretation! It's actually just got a lower-limit of 5 characters, so I'm assuming you stuck a space in there and met the conditions coincidentally. And I should actually definitely look into those specific questions again - I think that'll give the beginning much more focus.

I definitely get the feeling of wanting things to branch, and I may do that in the later half of the game. But honestly my hot take is that people much prefer linear narrative, but have been tricked into believing that branching narratives are cool. So if anything I'm probably going to even prune more of the branches that I did, and work on a more compelling plot. But I hear you, and really appreciate your time and input.

oh, lol. that might've just been me misunderstanding the guideline then! XD maybe I'm the only one who did that. I thought it was an intentional part of the game haha

The UI in this looks incredible. I know a few apps that should be taking notes from this 1-week jam. Really well done.

I also enjoyed the options I could pick from (and obviously I picked only the most ludicrous ones), and you get an extra star for writing out the terms and conditions. (Though I'm going to have to invoice you for a new scroll wheel after that marathon of slow-scrolling madness!)

This is the kind of thing I'd have wanted to maybe try out a few times with different options to see what happens, but the lead-up and long wait times decreases my desire to do that. (But at the same time, the pausing to "load" options and "process" information makes it feel very real and immersive, so it's probably worth the inconvenience.)

I think I got to an/the end, but it just sort of hangs there; I didn't get to any kind of end screen. It just says "reconnecting failed" and then I can't do anything. Is there something more after that?

Developer

Hey thanks for playing! And yeah I spent far too long on the UI, and not nearly long enough on the writing.

Really appreciate your feedback. A lot of your frustrations were intentional, but obviously that needs to be fine-tuned to get a better balance. Overall I'm not happy with a lot of the timings, and your specific points on that are very helpful.

And yeah, you got to the 'end', but I had to just quickly slap that in because I ran out of time. I've got a few more narrative ideas that I didn't get chance to implement.
