Nice Atari VCS entry, however I am having a bit trouble with some collision detection, seems like I am stuck at some places or it's not certain if I am attacking some enemies, or got stuck in a wall. Eventually I was going around to explore the area till I died.
I haven't played other 2600 games before, so I'm not sure what its capabilities are (I've only seen footage of Halo 2600 on YouTube before). But this game looks great! The graphics are simple - but I love how chunky and abstract they are! That title screen is quite ominous and sets the mood perfectly.
That being said, there were a couple issues I ran into. The biggest issue was it isn't clear from the start where to go. For example, I didn't know I could enter the house until I walked into the 3 block gap above it. And I didn't know that I had to attack some enemies (like the stationary guy in the Torii gate room).
But once I got past that, the game felt really good, like a Zelda-like as another commenter said. It was really interesting to see level design on such limited hardware. The event where the knight saved me was really cool.
There were, however, some bugs. Sometimes mobs would push me through walls, and I'd have to restart the game. And sometimes I would get stuck on trees. But these latter bugs are minor for a jam entry.
Overall, great job! Excited to see what else you do with this!

Hi fellow Atari 2600 developer! :)
This is a very interesting entry, quite an ambitious Zelda-like game!
Like others, I had quite an hard time figuring things out at the beginning of the game, but then I enjoyed the many screens and "story like" events inside the game (like the knight saving you), very cool!
I did encounter a bug where the orc pushed me outside of the room border, and I could no longer reentry inside the room. I had to wait there to die (see screenshot).
Other than that, quite a promising entry, I hope you keep working on it and polish it further. I think more hints or more detailed written instructions could be useful, especially in the beginning. For example, it took me about 15 min to figure out that you could enter the blue house on the third screen form the side of the house and not only for the door that was blocked. (and it happened by sheer luck as I was wandering aimlessly). If can somehow avoid such cryptic puzzle at the very beginning of the game I think it would easier to keep new players on the game :).
Really strange, but captivating. As others it took me a while to get to grips with the game. I managed to get up to 10000 health, and was just fighting enemies in the former wind room. Then it looked like it glitched and Stella returned to the menu, just I was fighting the dragon after the archers.
The bow is the weapon of choice against dragons.
Quite well done, for all the restrictions the 2600 comes with!
This was one strange ride.
To be honest, I had no idea what was going on.
Do I hit this guy?
Is he an enemy or a friend?
what do you not understand?
I was unable to understand if I hit an enemy or not, or if a character in game is a friend or an enemy.
For example, in the stage where is this mage who is spawning those little enemies, I thought that this guy was a good guy and enemies are just spawning in this area and avoid them all together.
When I was to the dragon even with, 8000 energy, I failed to beat him because I was unable to understand if I hit him or not and this was my game over.
