Description
I used MuseScore and Logic Pro (using the Spitfire Audio LABS and BBC Symphony Orchestra plugins, as well as the Rain Maker VST) in composing this piece.
I wanted to compose a piece that was reminiscent of the turbulence and tumultuous nature of a waterfall after a heavy rainstorm, while simultaneously evoking feelings of nostalgia or melancholy. Writing this piece was an outlet for me as I finished my finals at college, since I’m about to graduate and am facing great uncertainty in my personal life. I chose the instruments - piano and clarinet - because I thought that the eighth notes in the piano nicely simulated flowing and tumbling rapids or waves, while the clarinet complimented the atmosphere of the piece and the theme of water, appearing rather calm on the surface but conveying a certain depth of emotion beneath that. I would imagine this piece to be the theme song for either a scenic game that conveys an epic emotional journey or obstacle that the protagonist has to overcome, or for a movie soundtrack about a similar theme.

I love this one. The piano, clarinet, and rain ambience come together perfectly for the tone you were going for of uncertainty to the future. The tinge of dissonance helps sell the idea as well.
Try to play around with rhythm a little more, I think throwing in some triplets or 16ths to spice things up a little could put more emotion into the piece if done well :)

Overall very well done - I love the clarinet and piano together. I'm not sure I love some of the harmony choices when the melody is played in 3rds - some of the dissonances seem like you didn't stay diatonic, which isn't a rule you MUST follow, but wasn't something to my personal taste. I think the clarinet could have use less low end or perhaps a touch less reverb to make it a bit clearer. The melodies were beautiful!

A piano clarinet duo. A simple score yet it clicks with me. The melancholic sounding just hit me....
Very nice piece! As a piano player, it reminded me of the music I played back when I accompanied other instrumentalists and vocalists for credit, fun times. I think the balance between the two instruments is really well done, it's so beautifully written I wish the piece went on a bit longer to showcase more interplay between the clarinet and piano. Great job!

Beautiful, haunting piece of music! I wasn't expecting the clarinet to be introduced, and it was absolutely beautiful when it did. Compositionally, the dissonant/jazzy/'tumultuous' choices seem a little out of place with regards to some of the hopeful, nostalgic, and serene feeling I interpreted from the prompt, but as a standalone piece, it is marvelous (and this critique is fully subjective, so take my opinion with a grain of salt). Also, some tempo variation/rubato in the performance could definitely elevate the tension and 'turbulent' nature of the piece, but as it is, I very much enjoyed it!
