Title
piping cold;

Description
made with love and 14 general midi library bagpipes. All effects used to make different sounds are FL stock.
.flp included in zip file so you can see the abomination I've created in greater detail.

The song isn't about anything in particular, based off songs I was listening to around the time and messing around with different things until it sounded kinda good

Didn't spend a whole lot of time refining this, if I were to finish I'd focus on making the drums less boring (adding a snare, more variety in hi-hat/kick), expanding on the first drop (only 8 bars felt a little half-baked), and making the ending feel a little more final than just messing with the pitch and transposing the first half.

4/4 is for squares so instead enjoy the mixed meters and 15/16 ending

This is not only impressive on how you made it, but it is actually good to listen to!

Amazing job!

Developer

Doing things the hard way is always the fast track to learning faster, and boy did I learn a lot making this!

Thanks for the feedback 🙏

Even if the piece is "a bit" trollish I think it have some great quality and the main melodic cell / theme is very well find. To me it mainly lacks harmonic support.

Developer

Now that you've said it I can hear how empty the harmony is, definitely something I'll focus on for next time!

Thank you for the feedback 🙏

LOVE how you use pitch bends on the bagpipe sounds AND made it sound like a distorted guitar at certain points. A+ manipulation of one instrument.

Developer

pitch bending is so addictive and makes every melody 10x better instantly

Thank you for the feedback 🙏

Very cool, chaotic track, and cool use of only the bagpipes. The composition is really cool, and my only critique would have to do with mixing/mastering and adding some low-end (though I saw that you said that even the kick was the bagpipes - you stuck to your guns and I like that). I enjoyed the song a lot!

Developer

The bagpipe I used didn't have much of a low-end making it hard to fill in the bass, I guess it shows lol.

Once I learn more about effectively mastering and EQing I can probably make it sound better, but it was a tough balancing act by itself to get the punchy kick without washing out everything else so I'm happy with it for now :)

Thanks for the feedback much appreciated 🙏

"4/4 is for squares" is an extremely powerful statement I wholeheartedly agree with. (But don't hate me because my submission is in 4/4)

I really wasn't expecting much from this submission in all honesty. That's why I was double pleasantly surprised when I heard it. It's really creative with all the effects, (odd) time signature and the arrangement. While listening I even forgot I was just listening to a bunch of bagpipes. I think you did a really great job and nailed the challenge.

Developer(+1)

There's nothing wrong with using 4/4 time! A lot of cool songs can still be made with common time signatures, I just have a preference for the added wonkiness other ones have :)

Thanks for the feedback 🙏

Usually I go for a lot of weird time signatures as well, but I am trying to dim down my odd time signature usage for composing jams because in the past it's felt like not everyone was able to appreciate them. But I am happy to see that the number of submissions in odd time signatures in composing jams seem to increase more and more each jam, goes hand in hand with the jams getting popular obviously.

I also quickly want to mention to you that you're submission is definitely one of my favorites!

Energetic tune, the bagpipe is now a synth at this point lul. Great stuff from it.

Developer

Someone else said the bagpipes didn't sound too bagpipey, I'll try to go for something that makes a better distinct use of the instrument next time.

Thanks for the feedback 🙏

Definitely not what I was expecting from an 'all bagpipe song', but man was it great! Awesome job with this one.

Developer

I always try to experiment with new ideas in songs (although I don't compose very often), I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

Thanks for the feedback 🙏

It is very impressive that you made the song using only bagpipe noises but I was a bit sad that it never felt like a normal bagpipe was used. It was all heavily edited bagpipes which is a shame because I think a bagpipe only piece deserves to have at least 1 truly bagpipish bagpipe.

Developer

I can agree with that. I tried keeping the lead and chords as faithful to the original bagpipe sound, but I guess when they're played in such an un-bagpipey way it loses the feel regardless.

Thanks for the feedback 🙏

is the kick also a bagpipe? if it is thats really cool, if not your missing smth

Developer(+1)

It is a bagpipe !! I don't remember if it was just one or two layered together, but everything is made out of the same bagpipe preset in FLEX.

just from one comment you made this song 10x more interesting
