Description
This is a chill lounge jazz remix/cover of a pulsating techno battle theme.

I used FL Studio 21 to put together this remix. My favourite part was actually the solos - I decided no lounge jazz act was complete without some solos and had fun sneaking a few other FF8 OST references into them!

This was the first time I have composed jazz in FL Studio, and I decided to do so manually without the use of swing. This was an added challenge due to needing to keep all the moving parts in time but I think this approach helped give the track a much more natural and organic feel - automated jazz just wouldn't sound right!

Good, this is chill, I like it quite a bit.

I feel like the clarinet (?? idk if that's the instrument, woodwindy one at the beginning) sounds a little thin and raspy and that kind of cuts into the overall excellent composition, but that can be one of those things that's more a matter of access to resources than it is a matter of skill.

Overall I like the tone of this a lot. Excellent work!

Thank you for the feedback! I think the raspiness may have been from the saxophones, especially the alto sax? If I had more time I would have definitely tried to fix those (and listening back I may have left in some overdone reverb and made it even worse!). For some reason finding decent sounding saxophones is a bit of a challenge - perhaps not the easiest of instruments to record in isolation for a VST.

Yep! I think this is just more of a limitation of equipment than skill.

Makes me think that next time I want to find a group of people.

A very cool take on the original, and nicely done too! Still haven't got round to playing FF8, but I might have another listen when I do to try to pick up on those references to the rest of the OST :)

I can imagine sitting in a smoky room listening to a small ensemble playing this. The solos are well placed and well-produced. You did a great job making them feel improvised, like true jazz. Great work and thank you for sharing!

Really cool! I love the vibe you've created. I can see something like this played at a lounge easily. Nice submission!

Wow, I feel like this was a cool idea! After listening to the original, I love the chill jazzy vibes you created! A fun take on a battle theme!

Thank you :) definitely a dramatic shift from the original but that made it more fun!

Really enjoyed this, completely different vibes from the original!

I never would have guessed all the swing was done by hand, it sounds super natural :)

Thanks! I also left a lot of the rhythm section and starts of phrases very slightly early or late to try to simulate that unconducted, just going off the feel of the music vibe that you get from small jazz ensembles. (Not having to micro-edit also saved some time which helped in a 2-week jam!)
