I've not played PoP:WW but from a browse of the soundtrack you definitely captured the mood really well, and it was generally pleasing to listen to.

I would have perhaps liked the drums to be a bit more prominent in the mix, particuarly in the latter stages of the track - a punchier kick in particular would have helped build up into the ending riff. I know this can be tricky with some VSTs but if you don't mind dropping some $$ GetGood Drums is a really good-sounding and easy to mix kit for rock and metal.

I really enjoyed this - actually even more than the original! The choice of instruments and the mixing was spot on, it felt pulled from a (good!) indie platformer. It even feels like you could even add a beat underneath it and have lo-fi Gauntlet :D

Just very pleasing indeed, one of my favourites from the whole Jam!

Thank you for the feedback! I think the raspiness may have been from the saxophones, especially the alto sax? If I had more time I would have definitely tried to fix those (and listening back I may have left in some overdone reverb and made it even worse!). For some reason finding decent sounding saxophones is a bit of a challenge - perhaps not the easiest of instruments to record in isolation for a VST.

Fantastic arrangement and reimagining of the original - as others have said, it just needs a little more punch to take it to the next level.

Really nice, atmospheric first track - the inspiration is clear but I think it fits the theme you were going for.

The tavern track was a little chaotic in parts (understandable as it is unfinished! but there is definitely something there - I even wonder if that chaos actually gievs it a sense of extra authenticity? After all, what real tavern song would be super polished! It almost had a fun end credits kinda vibe to it. Definitely one to finish off when you have time but I would try to keep as much of that raw organic energy as possible!

Listening to this, the idea of remaking some of these tunes with the sound of the following gen is so obvious and yet I don't think I've ever heard it before! A super cool take which gets me thinking about what else could get the Genesis treatment...

This one took me by surprise - you captured the sound so well I had to double check I wasn't still playing something from a MoH playlist! I honestly feel this could have been lifted from a movie OST - fantastic job!

You absolutely nailed the Spyro feel here - I think Beach Speedway and Gnorc City might end up in my top 5 compositions from this jam, they sound like they were pulled straight out of a PS platformer. Amazing work!

Really enjoyed this overall - it made me wonder if there is a similar faster-paced version of this theme in the game, maybe during the palace escape in Disc 2? If not I could totally see this fitting that scene which is credit to the arrangement!

One thing I thought might be improved were the dynamics, which were a bit inconsistent in places for an orchestral arrangement. There was an long crescendo right near the start in particular which imo would have been more effective if it were just one or two bars, or even if the dynamic had transitioned straight from mp to mf/f.

Wasn't expecting the pleasant surprise that was the solo piano at the end - those fast runs sounded super natural!

I feel like there is so much potential in these tracks - your vocal work is something really distinctive, and there is a real sense of the kind of songs that characters might sing in some of the epic 'hero's journey' tales.

For Farewell and, to a lesser degree, Under the Mountain, I almost wanted a full orchestra to gradually come in underneath the vocals, build to a huge crescendo with countermelodies etc and then leave just the vocals at the end. But perhaps that would be a bit too Howard Shore :D

Keep working on these, I'd love to see what you can do without the time constraints!

I hadn't heard this track before but I thought your cover was an interesting alternative take on the original - the gender-switched vocals worked really well! I'm sure there's some deeper meaning from the story for this or something that I have missed, but I just liked how it sounded :D

This was a very nice cover - clearly the original but you really put your own stamp on it in a way that I found really pleasing! I actually liked that the vocals stood out and didn't get too lost in the mix as can often be the case with other examples of the original genre.

Thanks! I also left a lot of the rhythm section and starts of phrases very slightly early or late to try to simulate that unconducted, just going off the feel of the music vibe that you get from small jazz ensembles. (Not having to micro-edit also saved some time which helped in a 2-week jam!)

Thank you :) definitely a dramatic shift from the original but that made it more fun!

Looking to join a team for this jam - some older demos are available on my Soundcloud but I can also send examples of my more recent work on some as-yet-unreleased projects if needed. I am also open to doing sound design if needed.

Looking forward to working with you :)

Hi guys

I'm looking for a team for my first ever jam - my focus is on composing music but looking to get some experience doing sound design as well.

Small portfolio at the links below (I do have access to more retro-sounding VSTs) but I'm very much looking to learn and get some experience with some cool people!
