Have a question about the jam? Check below for answers to some of the most common questions! If you don’t see what you’re looking for, feel free to reply to this thread.
Do I have to follow the “Beyond Expectations” theme exactly?
You’re free to interpret the theme however you’d like, as long as it’s clear how your game goes beyond what players normally expect. Whether it’s through story, gameplay, or design, your entry must incorporate the “Beyond Expectations” theme to be valid.
Can I start working on my game before the jam begins?
You can brainstorm ideas and concepts beforehand, but actual game development should only start on or after March 20, 2025. If you’re using pre-existing assets, make sure you have the proper rights and credit the creators appropriately.
Can I use commercial or free assets from online libraries?
Yes, as long as you have the legal right to use them and credit the creators properly. No generative AI art is allowed for visuals, text, or audio. Any new content you create for the jam must be made during the jam period.
Is there a limit to how many people can join my team?
Nope! You can work solo or with as many collaborators as you like. However, keep in mind that the prize will only be awarded to the account that submits the game, so make sure you and your team discuss how to split any winnings beforehand.
Is there a minimum or maximum playtime requirement?
Your game should offer at least 15 minutes of playable content. There’s no strict maximum, but keep in mind that judges are only required to evaluate up to one hour of gameplay.
Do I have to provide a Windows build specifically? Can I just upload Mac or Web versions?
You must include a Windows-compatible version for judging. You’re welcome to provide additional builds for other platforms (Mac, Linux, Web, etc.), but judges will only guarantee an evaluation of the Windows version.
What is the judging criteria?
The judging criteria will be released when the jam begins. Stay tuned for full details on how entries will be evaluated!
Will I be penalized for bugs in my submission?
Minor bugs are expected and won’t be penalized. However, a game-breaking bug that makes the game unplayable within the first 10 minutes may lead to disqualification. If a major bug occurs later, judges will only evaluate the playable portion of your game.
