If you have implemented the modifier, how have you done so?
Retro.. I found some old music box music of the song "A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square".. also I think the gameplay is retro and "crappy", similar to that "Journey's Escape" game on the Old Atari

Any additional information for voters?
any IP.. my wife is a Good Omens fan, so I took the opportunity to make a game for her... (I'm more of an art person than a coder, and this was my first solo project)

For your first solo project, this was a really fun experience. It has a rather zen attitude with it, which really suited the gameplay.

In some ways it kinda felt as if I was falling through a Terry Gillam animation. The different creatures in the game are wacky in their own way, and all helped to add to the surreal experience.

Overall, a very wholesome game, and a good fit for the jam. Well done!

thanks very much.. my kid recently has gotten into Monty Python.. so been watching a lot of Terry Gilliam and I think it's had an influence

Developer

btw, did you ever try going up?

I had fun with the cutout graphics "enemies", it was an interesting experience!

There didn't seem to be an ending, though? I was just standing on what I assume was the ground and nothing happened. I think it would have been good if there'd been something happening there, even if it's something small!

I liked the music!

Developer

thanks, I'm going to finish this once the jam is over..  also, try going up (I feel there should be more than one way to win)

2 things I couldnt get working, but will eventually is rag doll effects for Crowley and I want to switch to a sitting character once he touches the bench, and play and end game message.. (escape quits, in the desktop version, which I'll post after the jam... bu5 thanks for taking a look

Oh, no problem! That would be good.

I went up now, after your comment! http://prntscr.com/p5fbza is it possible to go further than this?

I don't like this game, but I think you hit the nail on the head. This game is pretty much exactly something I could point at and say, "this is so bad it's good".

I found the graphics to be absolutely hideous. The sprites are mostly really weird, ugly pictures cut out and pasted in. I also didn't like the font (though that's more personal preference) and the maps on the sides are just broken.

There's music but no sound. For this, it works.

I think it would be my top pick if the gameplay was just a little better. There's that fine line between "bad but playable" and "unplayably bad", and this sits on the unplayable side. You're supposed to dodge the expanding clouds, but with very slow horizontal movement and no vertical movement it's not actually possible most of the time. You're either almost guaranteed to miss or guaranteed to hit depending on the timing. Simply put the gameplay as designed doesn't really work.

There's also no endgame when you run out of time or hit the ground, which makes it feel incomplete.

It doesn't really come across as "retro" to me. I see what you're going for, but I'm not really feeling it. The intent may be there but nothing really stands out as oldschool when playing it.

I'm not familiar enough with Good Omens to say whether it's a good fangame or not.

It also runs like absolute garbage. I wonder if a desktop build would work better?

Developer

hey, thanks for taking the time to try out my game, those are some very well thought out points.. especially the desktop version (which really does run and look better).. i'm gonna work on some of those issues before I show the game to my wife (who isn't really a gamer but would enjoy this on her 5 min shuttle ride up the hill)
