This game is executed super well, in my opinion! I like how you've thought about how all these mechanics play together. I didn't even think about what you'd really need bullets for, when first playing the game... until I got stuck between three cubes and needed to break the one above me! Also, shooting a cube right as it's falling to freeze it and make it a higher point to grapple on is so great! We have something similar in our game. 😄
The wall jump was very nifty-feeling, I loved how I could jump from wall to wall on these cubes! But I did feel like it didn't work like I wanted to like half the time, especially when leaning on edges and after grappling. On the topic of controls, while the grappling felt really fluid in its motion, I really didn't like not being able to use it midair. I understand if you'd like to keep it as it is, but it seems so natural to have the ability to do so and frustrating when you can't.
I also really loved how the white lines at the top indicate the location and the type of block that'll be placed next! However, I didn't really feel a challenge after a while. I was about 10 minutes in, and the blocks were dropping at the same manageable pace as before. I'd lost two lives early because I was still getting the bearings of the game, but it was pretty easy to keep myself from getting hit after a little bit. There might be obstacles that come around later in the game, like blocks that hurt you or invert your controls if you touch them, or they might fall at a faster rate the higher you climb. But it'd be cool to get something else in there to make the gameplay more engaging the longer you're in it.
Nevermind, you totally added obstacles in your post-jam update. Awesome, way to think ahead!I have to say though, I can tell you put a ton of work into this game, especially when it comes to the controls. It's super impressive that you did this alone in 3 days, and it was pretty gosh darn fun to play. I'd totally be down to play it again after your post-jam update!
Thank you so much for taking the time to play and appreciate the game! Makes me feel amazing!
I'f fixing the not being able to wall jump cause i found the bug that wasn't letting you wall jump on the edges of the blocks. The grappling in mid air was very buggy but I'm fixing that as we speak. For the challenging part of the game as it progresses, I wanted to add a bunch of stuff but couldn't then. I'm working on it now and it will definitely get wayyyy better so check that out.
"Also, shooting a cube right as it's falling to freeze it and make it a higher point to grapple on is so great!" Thank you for being one of the only people to realize to do this. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm working on more challenging elements to add after you've crossed certain checkpoints, and i hope they make the game worthwhile to get to the top of the leaderboards.
"We have something similar in our game." NICE!
THANKS FOR PLAYING MAN. APPRECIATE IT!
Grappling hook makes evetything fun to play) Great game!
Preach!!! Thanks man!
It's a neat idea, but it just ends up being a waiting game where you wait for the easy to avoid boxes to fall so you can get just a little higher. There's no real strategy you can employ to speed things up once you get the hang of the game. It would be better if the game sped up as it went on so it becomes harder to avoid boxes in exchange for giving you the opportunity to climb higher faster. The instructions at the beginning are also a bit of an information dump and don't really do much to help.
Despite those issues, this is a solid entry. Nice work!
Yeah, I wanted to make the blocks fall faster as you progressed but that made for some unforeseen issues with the game and its playability. I'm working on a fix for that and it should be out a little after the game jam. As for the instructions, there was supposed to be a small gif video tutorial about the different aspects of the controls and the elements of the game, but that too was scrapped when it caused a lot of issues with the loading and actual playing of the game. Working on it man.
Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
Follow for more stuff that's coming!!!
You tagged this game as Linux compatible, but I cannot find an executable,. Did I miss something?
Sorry man small issues with the linux compatibility. I gotta fix that in the webpage. Might not release for linux for a little bit.
Sorry man... :(
