Simple but well made game with great art! Well done,. I included it in part 1 of my Public Domain Jam 2 compilation video series, if you would like to check it out :) https://youtu.be/xbZmIYuD92U
This is cute ^^ the art is simple but effective, I love little Hook swimming for his life and collecting coins he will never spend. This explores futility well. I think the Croc could have been a little more aggressive, swimming directly toward him results in the Croc backing off, I do like the look of defeat when you stop moving though.
Why won't those blasted mermaids help me, darn it!
Poor greedy captain Hook, got back all his pieces-of-eight,
But in a while, the crocodile, returned to seal his fate!
Good stuff though, I dig low-rez pixelart, and even though you only used two frames per direction, I think you really captured the Cap's essence. Ending animation is hilarious by the way.
After collecting the coins, I tried killing Hook, before finally giving up. Is there a message there, I don't know.
I like the sound and the graphics.
What a grim description! :( Shivered a bit.
I felt the game's mechanics only supported the game's purpose (that Captain Hook is doomed to die) somewhat. The fact that there are coins to collect & a counter is great, a way for the game laughing in your face & saying, "What are you collecting these for? You're not going to spend them, you're going to get killed by a crocodile any minute." It's brilliant.
However, the fact that you only die when you stay still didn't support the goal for me. Is it a way of saying the only way is to submit to your fate? Because I thought the game was saying that the croc was unavoidably going to catch me.
Some music would've increased the tension. Maybe for every coin, Captain Hook moved slower and the music gets louder, until the last coin makes him stop entirely?
This was really worth playing. Great work! :)
(btw, also in this Public Domain Jam, with HummingBird Haunting! Check it out? I'm eager to hear people's thoughts!)
