Thank you all for testing this and for your valuable feedback. Can only improve from this! :)
Nice game. I included it in my Touhou Jam 5 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)Ok so heads-up, this game visibly doesn't have anything to do with Touhou besides basic gameplay, but the rules of our jam require you to make a game that has something to do with the Touhou characters/universe. I'll let this stay up but next time you can't submit something like this since I told you this.
Anyway, the game was pretty straightforward but dragged on a lot and I wish the enemies took way less hits to kill so I could get to more rounds quicker. And the rubble looked a lot like bullets on that plain background so watch out for that. The title screen was very neat, so my biggest recommendation is that you take time like that and budget it into your core gameplay.
Sometimes I couldn't identify the dark red bullets from the wreckage.
Upgrades, such as DMG and F.Rate, are not effective
I have no idea what this has to do with Touhou besides the shmup gameplay and what it has to do with the theme except for the title.
The opening is probably the best part about the game, aside from the music that is pretty nice (despite the fact it doesn't scream touhou in any way).
The gameplay is kinda lacking. Enemies are more of an annoyance than a threat and thus the shield feels pretty useless. At like Level 3 dodging becomes basically impossible because your hitbox is so big and there are about three million projectiles.
Enemies sponge way too much damage and it all just really drags on and on.
Overall, it's so-so. It works, it does what it sets out to do, but it lacks any connection to the theme, which is sad.
Yes, I stated on Discord that I didn't have time due to a busy weekend to create the game I had envisioned, which would've been more close to Touhou-gameplay atleast. I did it all in like 5 hours. I didn't want to half-arse the real characters from the theme's setting, so I just made my own stuff. The game turned out to be a rogue-lite, where when you die, you keep your upgrades which then builds up your chances to survive longer in the game. But yes I didn't have time to make more variation in enemy behavior (they do have 5 different skins though according to level progress!) and I would've done a better job at everything if I had a week time, but this is what you get in five hours! And yes the title screen is the best i've ever made. xD
Can't say I can't relate, because the one time I had time to join the Touhou Jam, we didn't get anything done because everyone had busy schedueles and so all that really happened was a very barebones plattformer with an animated character that (which I'm still pretty proud of, admitedly).
Well, as long as you had fun I guess.
Well... It had a great opening presentation but the shooting part doesn't feel as promising. Player shots take a long time to reach the enemies and they're actually very tough to destroy. It gets undodgeable in threat level 3 and the firing power simply isn't there to reduce the bullets.
People kinda liked earlier Touhou games as they had soft fairies that usually die with very few shots, and player's main shot delivers the kill at an instant speed which gives it a strong tempo. To me this game doesn't feel like it's being inspired by Touhou, but by shmups in general.
As I mentioned on the previous reply, I had a very busy weekend and could only work on the game for like five hours. I'm happy with what I could do in that short time, even if I failed to reach the proper feels of the game. I'm especially proud of the retro-style title screen. XD Sorry to disappoint. Thank you for testing! :)
