I love the expansive levels that really capture a sense of adventure, and the game looks extremely good when there are a lot of enemies moving around onscreen.  Made it to level 2, probably could have beaten it if the collision detection and jumping controls were a little more reliable

I like the challenge, but I also didn’t know how to beat the challenge lol. But from the parts I was able to handle, it was a fun game overall. I like how you just jump right into it and go.

Is it just me, or is there sometimes a glitch when trying to drop from one platform to a lower one?

The graphics are really nice and seem to be very exactingly stylized. I can guess that a lot of time and care went into each sprite.

Also, big kudos: this web-build worked for me in Safari!

Happy Halloween!

Hey, thank you for the review! I'm glad the web build was able to work for you! It's been fairly inconsistent on mobile, but glad to hear the desktop version is working across the board!

The dropping through platforms has definitely been a little inconsistent - holding down and jump at the same time should always let you fall through, however PRESSING jump and down at the same time will sometimes do a short jump, and sometimes fall straight through the platform, and that inconsistency bothers me too, don't worry.

I think Alanis especially did a fantastic job on the spritework, the 4th level also has some fantastic sprites by jello, but most haven't gotten to see them yet haha. I'll be sure to pass the love on to them!

These enemies are savage! This game makes me think of my early childhood platforms from the SNES. Beautiful game.

Thank you so much, I think your response was exactly our goal for this! Couldn't ask for better praise.

Great music. Very catchy. You have to be very patient and thorough when dealing with enemies. If you try to run past some you'll likely get surrounded on both sides. Not a big fan of "you can't control your direction mid-air", personally.

Developer

Hey, thanks for playing our game! I think that slow, methodical approach really fits the theme we were going for perfectly well - I completely understand how you feel about the jumping, I remember playing older games like super ghouls and ghosts and similar titles with that mechanic and HATING it, it took a long time for it to grow on me, and it is certainly not for everyone. Thank you for the feedback!

This looks just amazing ! Awesome game ! Reminds me of the old nintendo days..

i got confused with the controls , just enable the arrow keys to move , the rest thing was super crunchy

Developer

Thank you! The Old NES area style, controls, and overall feel is exactly what we were going for.

Great game! Love the art, music, SFX, and VFX. Has a great and cohesive vibe. Only quirk I noticed was the jumping felt kind of weird (can't control once in the air), but overall this is very impressive especially considering the limitations of Pico8!

The hidden Grombit in level 2 was cute but it's a bit unfair his tongue was an insta-kill :(

well we weren't going to put in a secret boss if it wasn't going to be brutal. Let's see if you can see the caramelle dansen animation that plays if you beat him!

Looks awesome! That parallax is very well done. Sounds very good too!

Really captures the Pico8 feel! Also hard like those games of old.

Developer(+1)

Glad to hear it! I think we hit our mark with the feel and difficulty, which is more than we could have asked for for our first game!
