I love how ghost aggro works in this game; the fact that if they're confident they saw you they won't stop? Great mechanic.
Music was very tense as well. Very well done. Also love the classic Pico-8 art style.
I'm not the best at maze games (dare I say I'm horrible), so I constantly died, but that doesn't mean I can't see there was a lot of effort put into this game. I would even say I had fun!
I'm wondering if you meant to make subtle references to Pac-Man (yellow player character in a maze game about avoiding ghosts). I could be looking way too deep into things, but if you did, nice touch!
This was the first game I played for the jam, but I'm off to a great first impression.
Solid job!
Thank you, I’m glad you liked it!
I love your Pac-Man insight. I wish I could say it was intentional - I went with ghosts just to be a scary thing to hide from and the yellow character came about because I wanted to do something other than your typical 8x8 sprite of a person in jeans and a red shirt, and I thought a person in a hazmat suit was a good fit (which ended up looking like your typical Among Us ripoff :D).
That’s a really cool idea and I could definitely see going further with that, like adding an item to make the ghosts temporarily run away from you. It would be pretty powerful tool to let you explore a lot faster.
"You escaped!"
This is rather charming.
The risk/reward and "want-but-can't-have" with the torch is excellent.
The audio is simple but super effective.
The design and pace of the enemies is spot on, and the level artwork has enough variation to stick in the mind as you figure out the layout.
Nice, neat experience :)
Thank you :)
Cool game!
Thanks!
