Never seen visual novels in jams before, and all of a sudden I’ve seen 2 in a week, lol. There a new plugin for it?

Thank you. I use Ren'py, a visual novel software which has been around for quite a while, so I have no idea if other generic game softwares have a VN plugin that became popular. For the record, itch.io actually has quite a few jams specifically for VN, such has SuNoFes, which just finished and the currently running Spooktacular Visual Novel Jam.

Nice story, good use of the assets you had. I had a weird glitch where the music would stutter/restart when the dialogue progressed early on but that was the only real problem. Also found a couple of typos which is understandable for the time constraints "My blood voiled" was my favourite xD

XD -- I just found the "blood voiled" typo a couple hours ago while working on the final version and it gave me a laugh too. My other favorite one was when I accidently combined "what can we do" with "what can be done," which apparently gives you "what can be do" :)

I kinda recall hearing a slight stutter in the music on start up, sometimes. Might just be taking a minute to load. I have by the way changed the music to a track with a mysterious fantasy feel. RandomMind's "Medievel Exploration" is one of my favorite background instrumentals, but somehow it had a calm "ordinary" medieval vibe that did not fit this story at all.

The visual novel was a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one at that.

Would have loved to see the maze had you been given the time to do it, but regardless a cute little tale and a nice subversion of the theme.

Thank you. A Ren'py VN was easiest way for me to make a webgame quickly that fit the premise I thought of. I debated whether it was worth uploading such a barebones game with the gameplay replaced by the dev saying they didn't have time to finish the game, but decided I really wanted to. Glad you got a laugh from it.

What I am doing to add "gameplay":

#1 Set up the "maze" where the user has to pick which direction to go based on what they can recall from the wizard's directions. I already have all the images for each location picked out. 

#2 Add in some nonconsequential dialogue options when talking to the wizard and oracle. I had been unable to find a second "fantasy" type old man beyond the one I found with two different robe options, so for the oracle, I plan to allow the player to question that the similarity if they wish.

I see an issue with the idea - The player can just rollback to previous dialogue in Ren'py, can't they?

A player can hit back if they wish too, though that is their choice. My plan at this point is to have a choosing the wrong option lead to falling off the mountain and respawning at the wizard's workshop and having to start again at the flower field.

Hey nice background art. I couldn't tell from the links in the credits, but it looks just slightly... AI generated to me? Have you checked out stable diffusion e.g. https://beta.dreamstudio.ai/dream? I think it would be a super useful tool for making a game like this! (just describe your background and get AI to produce the result)

I have no idea what Lornn used to create the images, though I suppose it could be AI generated. Thank you for telling me about stable diffusion. It might be useful if I ever start writing longer VNs and want a specific location.

A VN software called Ren'py. 

The original plan was to have various points where the player had to choose which direction to go (i.e. did the wizard say to follow the trail or enter the woods) to create user input and making the wrong choice would result in respawning at the wizard's workshop, but my three hours went by too quickly to incorporate that.
