I have uploaded a screenshot of the whole map (For build2). The update will see significant changes to the map, but that is for after the vote ends.

This was pretty fun and challenging. I wasn't able to actually beat it but I managed to make more progress with each run which was pretty satisfying. I think having traps is a good idea but they're pretty difficult to see. This might be the intent but the traps slow me down for what feels like longer than necessary. Whenever I ran into them after the little starting area, I knew that the run was basically over. I like the little trails in the sand. They helped me figure out where to go. Good work!

This was fun! Great job. The sand traps slowing the player down are a great addition. A sound effect for when you hit the sand traps could be a nice addition.

Thank you for your feedback.

Improved sandtrap will be in the update, including new graphics, animation and sound effects. I will upload an update after the voting finishes.

Hi there!

The main problem with your game is that I didn't know if I had to survive until I died or if there really is a way out.

To improve, you could put arrows pointing either to the bottles or to the exit.

Add another pick-up bonus that lets you zoom out a little each time you pick one up.

I hope you find this feedback useful :)

Thank you for the feedback,

While I had written it on the game page, I should have added it to the game

A pointer would have made the game too easy; I wanted a certain difficulty level.

Time ran out, I considered adding it in, but it would have taken about 30-1h to implement, but I was pleased that I had managed to be under 3 hours.

The update that will be pushed after the voting period will address some of your points;

  • There is an introduction story (cannibalized from an idea I abandoned) that will give more context and instruction.
  • There will be a speed boost pick-up.

Fun maze game! I thought the choice of music was particularly fitting.

I think it's a little hard, though: even if I knew exactly where to go, it feels like I wouldn't be able to make it. A couple of things that I think could help fix that:

  • placing more water bottles
  • making the maze smaller
  • making the player go faster
  • and/or zooming the camera out a little so the player can see more

Any or all of these tweaks would help me finish the game, I think!

One bug I found: the timer counts down by 2 instead of 1, so the timer says you have twice the amount of time than you really have. Fixing this small thing might even fix the gameplay I mentioned above. But a single bug in a three hour game is really good!

Overall, nice work! I played it a couple times trying to find the exit. 🙂

Thank you for your great feedback.

Agree placing of water bottles could be improved, with most of the water bottles placed by gut feeling. I did not have the time to test all (I wasn't even sure if the maze could be completed).

I wanted the maze to be big, but it needed more variety of problems and changes of scenery to help navigation.

Agree player could move faster (and have animation).

Agree camera could pan out a bit more,  but did not want it to be too much unless I had some Fog of War effect, but that was probably too much hard work for Trijam game.

The bug is not a bug, and it was intentional. Originally it was counting down in a block of ten but did not feel right. Then had to count down by 1, but then it felt it was too rushed. The countdown was settled on going down by two was a quick fix. To be honest, I would like to replace it with a bar or some other visual display.

Working on one update for after the voting so should see some of these implemented, and I will post a screen shoot of the whole map.
