suggest ttrpgs for people to create characters for!!! please give a little bit of relevant information about its ruleset (crunchy, pbta, classless, skill point assignments, etc.) to help people decide if it'll be a good fit for them. self-promotion is okay, but keep it on-topic (games with literally no character creation mechanics or systems at all are a bad pick, for example) and try not to promote more than like two of your own games for this.

i started this list when i was convinced i would still have any time at all to do the rpgg challenge, but i've been working on my list of ttrpgs i want to do for this!!

two quick recommendations from my list while i have a little bit of time; i'll probably come back here and add more later:

wanderhome — character creation is simple; if you're familiar with belonging outside belonging, you'll understand what i mean right away. the flavor offered is vast and extremely tasty, though, and you can really get elbows-deep in writing out a character backstory if that's what you want to do based on just a few selections and a read-through of the world info.

heroes of lite —if you want a grid-based tactics game that isn't d&d, and you don't want to do a ton of math, heroes of lite is it. there's a thorough review here in the comment section and here on my blog which both discuss what the game and character creation is like!

also, one bit of self-promo: soul & survival is a one page lasers & feelings hack so there's not a ton going on, but i'm really proud of how much flavor i filled  it with and would love to see the characters people might build for it!!

Here's my list of my personal favourite systems:

(For context, these are all some variety of rules-lite,)

- Thirsty Sword Lesbians (https://evilhat.com/product/thirsty-sword-lesbians/) - PbtA, emotion driven narrative drama. Each playbook has an internal conflict that can be very fun to figure out.

- Orbital Blues (https://soulmuppet-store.co.uk/products/orbitalblues) - sad space cowboys just trying to survive in a space western world. Also has some great mechanics to set up a character's backstory and connection to the world.

- Mothership (https://www.tuesdayknightgames.com/collections/mothership-core-rules/products/mothership-players-survival-guide?variant=41210327269465) -  sci-fi horror. Very easy to learn, plus the player book is free!

- FIST (https://claymorerpgs.itch.io/fist) - PbtA-ish, paranormal mercenaries doing good where they can

- Orbital (https://mouseholepress.itch.io/orbital) - NDNM, GM-less, characters working together against the backdrop of an interstellar war. Like other NDNM games, has fun character options and playbooks.

- EXTREME MEATPUNKS FOREVER (https://sinisterbeard.itch.io/meatpunks) - PbtA, fight antifacists in a meatmech and maybe kiss your friends. Weird in the best way and one of the funniest rulebooks I've read.

- Mobile Frame Zero: Firebrands (https://lumpley.itch.io/firebrands) - GM-less, romantic ace mobile frame pilots. Has some very fun question based mechanics.

- Monsterhearts (https://buriedwithoutceremony.itch.io/monsterhearts-2) - PbtA, messy teenager drama, as a monster.

- The Almanac of Sanguine Paths (https://montfordtales.itch.io/the-almanac-of-sanguine-paths) - solo tarot based werewolf journaling game.

And I'm going to give an honourable mention to The Beginning is the End (https://adam-west.itch.io/the-beginning-is-the-end), because it's a game about making characters.

Recommending:

Sleepaway- A Belonging Outside Belonging game set at a summer camp in which horrific things happen. Comes with 10 playbooks in the main guide that are infinitely reusable! I also created a playbook for a strangeness character (a playbook you pick up after your original character has died) that you can find in this supplement.

Our Traveling Home - A Howl's Moving Castle inspired game using Firebrands framework. Comes with 5 playbooks!

Wickedness- A game about a coven of witches for 3 players using a bespoke tarot system. Comes with 3 playbooks and has excellent relationship-building questions that will make building multiple characters for the jam easy peasy!
