I feel like there's a cool idea here. But the execution leaves a lot to be desired.

Is the challenge of the game guessing where to go? Cause that's not a fun challenge.

Developer

the challenge was supposed to be; try to reach the required amount before times up or getting killed. But it missed the extra abilities on the cards and enemies due to time shortage.

My 15 min gameplay sesion leads to one conclusion: Good Idea, but bad execution.

Things to improve:

-Add compss or at least tell us where north is

-Make walking animation slower or character movement faster so animation and movement match each other

Developer

Oh, thanks for the feedback! I thought the compasses on the cards helped enough, but will make it more clear next time.

Neat little game i really dug the concept, i didnt fully grasp it all in my brief play but i did think it was a pretty cool concept all round

Hey do you have a Windows build for this game? Unity on HTML 5 doesn't run too well for me so I can't quite leave an exhaustive rating/comment.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

I'll build one and add it ;)

Edit: Windows x86 build added!

Thanks for adding a windows build! Played the game and really loved the concept, I think you have a pretty strong start for a real nice experience here :) Don't fell discouraged by the some of other comments, it's a game jam and I think you've done an exceptional job for your 3rd game jam.

Quick tips about Unity and screen size. Most of the time, you probably want to set Canvas Scaler's UI scale mode to be 'Scale with Screen Size'. This makes the entirely screen scale with the size of the screen itself (so that things will look right regardless of screen size. https://docs.unity3d.com/Packages/com.unity.ugui@1.0/manual/script-CanvasScaler....

I really love the goofy walking animation and the biting animation, it really added to the overall vibe of the game. I was a little confused at first about when I was able to bite people, but eventually got the hang of it. It would be super cool if different humans have different movement patterns making the game feel more like a puzzle game (e.g. red shirt humans walk in an L (like a knight in chess) while blue shirt human walks 2 tiles ahead). Then you could tweak the balance of the deck by doing something like giving players a bigger hand but only letting them play up to 3 cards or something similar.

I was really surprised at the end when it went into first person camera, I think it's a nice touch :) Also loved the musical choices!

thank you so much for all this feedback!

Hey, congratulations on completing your first 3D project. That's quite a feat and I'm sure a lot was learned! I really liked the concept, but didn't fully understand the strategy. It felt I did better when I randomly picked directions then picked bite when it lit up - but sometimes this didnt work and I never really knew why. I really like your choice of music, I think it fit really well with the theme. I also loved the slay the spire vibes I got from the card deck. Great job!

Developer

Thanks man, I have to admit that the card strategy seems to work out best to just pick random until you can bite... because of the unpredictable 'enemy' movement. The freeze/seduce abilities were meant to give more control to the player, but couldn't implement them proper due to time.
