Wait, does this mean that I won?
I'm impressed by the size of the sprites for a pico-8 app. At first I though the boss was easy to cheese and then boom, now he is moving and shooting, and ratatooting. :D
yes! you won, the end screen confused a lot of people :P
Pico-8! Niiiice! I loved the gato and the pockerface, especially when you point the gun upwards as the cat stares into the abyss is an epic moment! :D I really liked the 3rd boss mechanic, the one with the boxes. Audio was also very good, both music and sfx.
thanks opossum!
Really cool to see a Pico-8 game in here! Also the first one i've come across. loved the music, simple gameplay and fun times! Thanks for the good game!
thanks Kinggrizzly!
Nice job! Lots of polish, cutscenes, good player feed back. This is another great example of keeping game jams games small and polishing what you do have. Fantastic!
thanks clemonades!
I'm a sucker for pico-8 games. The music was SLAMMIN', and the gato sprite was just sublime. Very nice execution, albeit a bit short. Short but sweet.
thanks tjohnman!
From the screenshots, I was not expecting to jump right into a bumping soundtrack with a full opening cutscene. What a treat! Maybe I'm the odd one, but I think I would have preferred WASD for movement and shooting and jumping with my right hand. Either way, the gameplay was addicting enough, quick enough and just the right level of challenge that I jumped back into each new round ready to tackle the boss with my new knowledge of his attack patterns. It took me until my second run to realize I could just hold down shoot! My hand was killing me before that.
I had to beat it twice. The end screen was confusing for me, I thought I'd died and not succeeded the first time because I was down to my last bit of health. But when I beat it again with more health I realized that was the ending.
This was a fun, quick romp. I'd have turned up the sfx on the gun a bit and maybe added a noise when you take damage, but overall I really enjoyed my playthrough.
thanks endmark! yes, my friends were confused about the end screen, they too saw the "game over" text and assumed they had lost, sorry about that :P.
Totally forgot about adding a sound for when the player is damaged, one of the things I'll be adding once the jam is over hehe
Love how derpy the cat looks and the feedback of the gun shooting is very nice! I had a fun!!
thanks!
GG!!!!!
Nice short single boss fight. I thought it would be boring boss battle until the boss shot me! Good boss attack patterns. :)
thanks DarkBloodbane! glad to hear the attack patterns worked, definitely one of the most challenging aspects :P
