I found that going for kills usually got me killed as well, my reflexes aren't good enough when the three babies spawn or another enemy joins the fray. In general health depletes so quickly that fighting is very dangerous. Scurrying around looking for shields first seemed like a good strategy. Unlucky #13 was the best I could manage!
Thank you so much! 13th place is amazing, and with a high score as well! It took me a lot of tries to beat it. The game gets really chaotic really fast. My strategy is to only attack when necessary since it's really risky. Usually, I wait until I find a force field, then try to kill as many zombies and cockroach as possible. Also, I stick close to a wall, but not too close, to avoid getting trapped by the cockroachs.
