I would like to do animations someday. But unfortunately we don't really have the expertise or time to add them for this game. So no animations planned here, maybe in a sequel or future game.
I agree, animations would be cool. We have a roadmap on our patreon if you want more details about updates but tldr: we'll be doing a few more updates and are targeting a steam release in july. After that we're planning to do at least one exclusive dlc on patreon. If the full release does well enough it would be awesome to take this on fulltime and do a lot more games but I can't promise anything yet.
