Loved this. Really reminded me of Inscryption.

The tutorial is good. My only feedback is you probably need to hold the player's hand even more. It took me a while to right click the card to use the light token, even though you had told me to a few texts earlier. I think Inscryption would have said explicitly "Right click the card" when I had to.

A few minor nitpicks:

  • The rightclick tooltip text is off the screen when combining cards.
  • The light token thing stole all of my light tokens before I realised what was happening. I would suggest taking players to a separate screen and ask them to add the tokens and see the hearts popping up, then they can see what they are doing.
  • I would have liked to see the cards I was winning when choosing a reward. I was sad that I had to go and open my inventory.

All in all this is a great game and I can really see the potential.

p.s. BTW I had no difficulty beating any of the encounters. You might be able to make them a little harder. I hardly took any damage.

I found it was safe to presume that uncovered cards that the opponent had would only ever do 1 damage - perhaps increase the chance of those being 2 power or even a small chance they are 3 power.

Thanks for your comments on our game.

Thanks for playing!
I quickly added that extra line to the tutorial, thanks for letting me know.

  1. Yep I need to rework the tooltip system sometime soon. It also becomes problematic when the card is in your hand at an angle and you try to read it.
  2. You're definitely right about that, I'll see what I can do to make it more obvious.
  3. The reason to why I didn't do this is a visual one. Showing the actual cards in 3D would make it really hard to read and would look bad because of the pixelation effect. This is why the cards are just "mystery cards", but I might give them tiers or something like that in the future. (or maybe text hints to what the card is? that could be fun)

I'm glad you found the game easy-ish!
Other playtesters before this update had a harder time with the game, but I think this shows that the tutorial is better now.

I'm currently working on the next version that will add a lot more depth to the 3D section of the game, and will make light a lot more useful currency that you'll be able to use in shops. There will also be some new rooms and a better story around the first boss.
If you're interested wishlist the game on steam so you'll get notified when the demo releases!
