Nice work so far, though I couldn't find out how to get past the gate with all the crystals, so I don't know how much I've actually seen. The atmosphere is spooky for sure (at least for me, I'm easily scared) , the grunting and growling in the background kept me on my toes. More than once while trying to figure out how to open that gate I had to check if there isn't some monster coming to eat me alive.

The "drop" mechanic placing the items where you initially picked them up was a bit confusing. A simple inventory that you can scroll through for example might work better. Overall I found the lighting to be too dark. I get that it's a spooky game and night and all, but sometimes I had a hard time figuring out the details of for example the symbols of the stones. And I dearly miss an option to invert the vertical mouse axis.

Items reverting to their locations disoriented me at first too, but I don't think it was a bad choice. I definitely think it would've bogged things up for me if I had to sort through some 12-odd symbol pieces at the gate part. Coming from someone that instantly picks up anything they can, at least. You might be a more discerning bird.

I see your point, and now I think it does work well for the symbols on the table. I guess I was mostly confused because the moment I experience this mechanic was when I tried the wrong tool on the trap door but clicked the left mouse button, so the tool just disappeared and nothing happened. It was a good thing that the other tools are at the same spot, so I did notice the first one had returned to its place. A little explanation might prevent such a confusion, though I can't think of one right now that fits the game well. Maybe just a text box saying "The hammer was returned to where you picked it up" when you first drop something. Not very smooth, though.

That is an exception, yeah. The statues and symbols are right there at the interaction point, but the trap door has them in a separate room. I kind of forgot about that one because by dumb luck I was holding the right item for the door when I got to it.
